I just got banned from the psr tutorial forum..

Why?

Well, for being critical on the Genos and explaining why it is a good thing that comsumers are critical...

this is very unusual for that forum. Are you sure you were banned and did you find out who banned you? I would be willing to bet Joe Waters did not know about this.

Bachus, you must have posted something really, really bad to get banned. In all the years I've been on that forum, I have only banned one individual, and that was for posting porn links. Others have been banned, but only after many, many nasty posts - as stated above, this is really unusual. I have absolutely no idea who banned you or why, but I will look into it ASAP.

I am totally pissed, that was not right. Bachus, you were one of the best contributors and very knowledgeable. Enjoyed all your post, regardless of position or critique.

There were two other of my favorite PSRtutorial members as well that were banned in the past, BABE and Allan-Russell. You can find some of Allan-Russell's fine arrangements in the Yamaha forum here.

We sometimes express different views and biases, but an all out ban for nothing is stupid. Biggest problem is the disparity between "sit and play" players and the intimidation more professional views somehow impede upon then (just a guess).

Anyway, I personally enjoy the forums, and learning from everyone else's views. It seems the members we learn the most from are the ones who get banned for one dumb reason or another. I don't understand.

I am well aware of why Allen Russell and Babe were banned, and both were discussed by the moderator board and both bans were quite justified.

You have identified the main issue correctly I believe. There are two "factions" there and I think the former have the most pull.

I don't know the reasons for BABE, but he/she was certainly a flamboyant character, but I enjoyed his posts.

I never contacted Allan-Russell personally for the details, but from what I know he only expressed a constructive critique to another forum member that didn't sit well I guess. Allan had a professional musical background, so I assume he was giving sincere advice from a professional perspective. Or at least give someone a warning.

And then i asked why a post was removed witouth any message to the poster?
I even said i could understand moderation, but if you dont send a message to the poster, he will never know what he did wrong...


And then the ban hit me...


But as i said, in a few days everything will be back to as usuall..

Good to hear Bachus! I can understand maybe 10 percent of the technical stuff you post but that 10 percent is helpful and someday maybe I'll be at 11 percent.

I am not that technical...

The one with the real deep technical knowledge on psr tutorial is PJ from sand and sound blogs... the research he has done is incredible deep..

Did you by a chanche mention Korg PA or other brand than "Yammie" in the first removed post?

Not a Yamaha type, so I've never been on the psrtutorial forum/site. But I've never seen anything offensive from Bachus on here. So I can't imagine why he got bumped off there.

I've been on the tutorial site since it began, I am one of the moderators, but I have no idea who banned him or why. It is an excellent site, has helped thousands upon thousands of members solve problems, provided them with a huge number of third party styles and is second to none for this type of forum.

My impression is that criticism, constructive or otherwise, of Yamaha products is not well received on the PSR Tutorial. There are Yamaha cheerleaders there.

I'm very careful of what I say on that site.

I still have two Yamaha keyboards and usually only post on that site if I need help with those keyboards.

Lets be clear on this matter. First and foremost, the PSR Tutorial site has been around for many, many years, during which time the members have provided support for ALL keyboard players - not just Yamaha. Thousands upon thousands of members have been assisted by a significant number of other members who have a very high level of technical expertise.

If someone has a problem with their keyboard, most of the time one of the moderators, or forum members, will usually come up with a good solution or fix for that particular problem. For example, I have an SM Card that has circumnavigated the globe a half dozen times, one that had the updates for the PSR-3000 and the only way to install them on the keyboard was using a SM card with the downloaded data. Not everyone had that capability, therefore, I mailed it to them with the premise they would mail it back to me.

When someone's keyboard began to do weird things, for the most part we came up with corrective solutions that very same day, and sometimes, just a few minutes later. If the problem was hardware related, we often provided the forum member with in depth instructions how to correct that problem, and failing this, we usually recommended an authorized service center that was near to where they lived.

Several of the moderators have provided incredible software, PC based programs for Yamaha arranger keyboards. And, they have done this at no cost to the members. There are very few forums that provides this kind of service. Over the years, Joe Waters has updated the forum to accommodate each, new Yamaha arranger keyboard, often a few months before the keyboard became available.

Similar to many music related forums, the PSR Tutorial provides an area for members to upload their songs and videos related to the songs. This is one of the more popular areas of the forum, second only to the styles section where members request suggestions for a style to use for a specific song, and others frequently contribute a third party style for those songs. The activity on the styles section is usually to the tune of a dozen or more requests daily that are fulfilled.

The site moderators are chosen by Joe Waters. Joe selects them on the basis of their technical expertise and ability to provide assistance to forum members in need. I am proud to say that I was among the first moderators selected, along with Michael Bedesem, who has created many, many software solution programs for Yamaha arranger keyboards. As moderators, we do not just sit around waiting to ban someone or delete their posts. For the most part, the only posts that are deleted are those that come from someone hacking into the forum to sell their products, which for a while, included several porn sites. Upon seeing those posts, they were immediately deleted and that poster was permanently banned, for obvious reasons.

On rare occasions, someone joins the forum that decides to denigrate some members because he or she feels they are superior to the membership for one reason or another, mostly because of their musical training. While they may be classically trained, or not, does not give them the right to berate another forum member. When this happens, repeatedly, then one of the forum moderators usually steps in and sends a PM to the offender. If he or she persists in this practice, then the moderators usually have an online conference to determine the next step in alleviating the problem or situation. This was the case with Allen Russell and Babe. And, before either of them were banned, they were repeatedly warned, and each of the moderators read each and every offending post before that action was taken. This was not the case with Bachus, therefore, I cannot comment on the reasoning behind his ban.

As to commenting about other arranger keyboards on the PSR Tutorial forum, it is permitted and no one objects to constructive criticism or comments pertaining to other arranger keyboards. However, like most moderators, I object to someone starting a pissing contest, a mine is better than yours post or thread of this nature. IMO, it serves no useful purpose and tends to inflame some individuals to where they post things they would never say to someone in person. I have threatened to delete some threads of this nature, but I never had - just the threat usually quelled the problem and the thread died on it's own. I have seen a number of pissing contests started on this forum, and some of those threads have become quite heated arguments. IMO, they have never served a useful purpose.

I am happy that Joe Waters renewed Bachus's membership in the forum, and I sincerely hope that he becomes an active member and contributes his expertise and knowledge base with Yamaha arranger keyboards to members in need of his assistance. The PSR Tutorial Arranger Keyboard Forum is, and continues to be, among the top arranger keyboard forums dedicated to Yamaha users and owners.

Garry, i agree with you that the psr tutorial forums are the next best forum just behind synthzone...

I have allways enjoyed the sharing nature of the Yamaha crowd..
The helpfull hands when someone is in need

And after going all korg allmost i year ago
I kept visiting the forums, as i enjoyed them very much
There are so many womderfull helpfull people there

And even tough i will probably not spend the €2600 required to trade in mu pa4x for the Genos, i will continue visiting the psr tutorial forums, just because they are a great place..


I just hope my lost posts can be recovered
And i would like a personal mail from Joe, about what happened
Maybe i can learn from it to prevent something like this in the future..
What i domt want or need is the name of the modulator that did the ban.
I dont see any reason for me to know... thats something internal for,psr tutorial

And i am actually surprised how people that often disagreed with me, have me in such high regards... seems the majorrity of the community discussing the Genos supports me, amd that is something to cherish.

Bachus, you may have to reregister in order to get back on the forum. Be sure to register under the same name, password, etc... and hopefully, you will not encounter any problems. Now, this may bring back your previous posts, but this depends on how they were lost in the first place. If they were deleted by the moderator that banned you, they may not be able to be recovered. Not sure at this point. If you have a problem, please contact Joe Waters via email and he will be more than happy to assist you in any way he can.

I am sure you saw that Joe Waters has taken back sole authority to ban someone.

Bernie, the only members I have banned in nearly 20 years have been those that hacked the forum to sell their wares or porn purveyors. Never had to ban anyone for doing something wrong in all those years. That said, I'm happy that Joe has once again taken on the burden of having to ban someone - it's a very difficult decision and should never be taken lightly. I know Nigel has had to do this a few times, and I'm sure he agrees with me on this subject.

Of coarse you are right, and I am sure Joe feels the same way. That is why he revoked authority by other moderators to ban anyone. He has reclaimed that right for himself only
