Bachus Senior Member Registered: 03/02/06 Posts: 7143	I just can’t make a C major 9th (or most other Major 9ths) When playing them with the left hand.. Sure i can play the 9th an octave down, that works ... But it just doesn’t sound as good as with the 9th an octave up ... Am i the only one with such small hands Or are others having the same problem.. What was interesting was ........I can reach that 10th with my right also but NOT as easily as with my left. It's known that Rachmaninoff had hands the size of hub caps. Look at the complexity of his compositions. and see....... What is the average hand span for a pianist Just how massive was Rachmaninov's hand-span? ...

Found since i can reach the 9th my 9” spread is average or even slightly above average.. But the span of my 4 fingers (witouth thumb) is under 6” which is slightly below average..
