Just got home from a short trip to the Post Office, made it just in time to slide down my driveway and into my parking spot. I walked in the front door and shot this with my phone.
Stay warm and safe, guys and gals,
Gary

Gary, It’s not much better here in Rhody. We’ve had 2 snow storms and one coming within the hour at 4:30 EST. In the 4 years we’ve been spending winters in sunny Florida this is the first December since we’ve been doing the trip that we did not escape in time, we usually leave a couple of days after Christmas. No such luck this year.

Gary - Nice video! But if I were you I'd have changed the lyrics and asked for maybe a snowblower and some thermal underwear...just sayin'...
Thanks for the great reminder of what MD can be like. After being gone for a rather long spell, we are hoping to go north (briefly!) to see some snow (from inside of course) in 2018. It's great to watch - just not too much fun if you have to "deal with it".

Thanks Randy - I gave the snowblower to my daughter - I'm too old a busted up to use it anymore and have some guy with a pickup truck and snow blade mounted on it to clear the driveway. Even with a monster snow blower, it took me the better part of 3 hours to clear my 300-foot driveway and 128-foot sidewalk.
Just getting to the driveway takes a lot of work.
Gary

Donny, the Florida keys are still in a state of disrepair, but maybe next winter I'll be living aboard the boat there. And, with luck, maybe I can talk Carol into coming down and spending some time living aboard as well. It would sure be nice to have her there for company.
Merry Christmas,
Gary

I went to college in (appropriately named) "Frostburg" Md. I was a lowly commuter and they didn't care much about day students. So they always plowed the commuter lots "shut" in the mornings so when I arrived I would have to ram my 63 Ford Fairlane through the snowbank into the lot...then at the end of the day, they always had me "Plowed in" and I'd have to ram my way out. Probably part of the reason I favor the "Sunshine State".
Still love MD as it's my home state, but only want the snow as a scene to enjoy.... enjoy that snow from inside Gary with some hot Kickapoo Joy Juice!

Brrrrrrr, the white cold slippery stuff found the way here as well.... At younger days I really loved it, as the kids does now. Anyway, I won't use the bad words about how much I dislike it, at least until it's time to showel.

GJ, my son just got home from Sweden last week and it was snowing there nearly every day for a week. He loved the people and the beauty of the countryside, but said he would hate to be there when winter hit full blast. He said he is going back and this time will be in Stockholm.
Stay warm, old friend,
Gary

Whimps! All of ya! My job was cancelled, so I went to see Star Wars tonight, and the theater was packed! (with geeks, like myself) (cue music...) "Oh the weather outside's DELIGHTFUL.."

.....He said he is going back and this time will be in Stockholm. ...
Stocholm is a beautiful city in a wonderful landscape. I think you would love to be there in the spring and summertime sailing your yacht around the countless islands that is the part of and also surround the city.
No place like Scandinavia in the summertime, but I would rather spend the winter at the sunny and warm Canary Islands. Dreams for the retirement part of life ..... almost there if look at the calendar. Take care, beware of the slippery white stuff. Broken legs heal much faster at youngsters they say.

Wife and I change cars in bad weather. I took off for Cincinnati (no weather to speak of) last week in my Jeep and she got buried in Michigan with her sub compact. Oops....

....which begs the question, is it 'whimps' or 'wimps'? I googled it and .....

... meanwhile, back to the OP - sorta - many years ago I had to travel to a branch office in the Twin Cities, Minnesota ... the Manager of that office said that I should get out there before Thanksgiving to avoid the snow ... as it happened, my schedule didn't allow me to make the trip until the Monday AFTER Thanksgiving ... sure enough, on the Saturday before, I'm checking the Twin Cities forecast and it says "two feet of snow expected on Saturday and Sunday" ... I was supposed to fly there on Sunday, so I call the Manager and he tells me to wait until Monday and everything would be fine ... Well, they got about a foot of snow on Saturday and about another two feet on Sunday, but when I flew in on Monday the streets were as clean as could be ... snow piled everywhere, but the streets were clean ... the great thing was that my hotel was about 4 blocks from the office but I never had to go outside ... indoor skywalks got me every place I wanted to go ... only needed my over coat when the Manager took us out to dinner out of the city ...

It was just 16 degrees here last night, brutally cold for man or beast. I waited patiently for the sun to warm things up a bit and when the thermometer said 40 degrees, I went outside to clear the sidewalk with a snow shovel (yeah, I know, but someone had to do it.) Then I scraped off about a 20-foot section of snow from the driveway so I could get the car up to the top to get yesterday's mail. Well, does anyone remember the old Post Office Motto: "Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds." What a bunch of crapola! Two inches of snow and no mail - the new guy who delivers our mail didn't show up. Oh well, maybe he will make it today. The roads are clear so there's no excuse.
Another fun day in the frozen north,
Gary

GJ, when I loved in Spokane, Washington, I saw the same type of roadways every winter. They cleared the road there with a massive snow blower mounted on the front end of a road grader. The first year I lived there, we had 100 vertical inches of snow on our front lawn and I had to shovel the snow from our roof three times during the winter to prevent it from caving in from the excess weight of the snow. By the end of March, the snow had pretty much melted in the lowlands and the Spokane River rose about 25 feet. No big deal, this happened every year.
Neat photo,
Gary

Yeah, could not resist post it. The picture is from April 2017, Tindevegen, Sogn, Norway. Not taken by me, but printed in an newspaper article about the opening some closed roads after a hard winter. Also about the special giant mascinery, and that they use GPS to find the way through the white stuff.. We have some mountains to cross in this country, so it's like: "Same procedure as every year James"

Here's a photo of Chinook Pass, which was about 100 miles west of where I lived. The air was so clear there that we could see Mount Rainer from our front porch.
This particular year, 95 vertical feet of snow fell on Mount Baker, a nearby popular ski resort. The skiers loved it - I couldn't wait for sping.
