Music Finder and Registration I am looking for opinions on how to set up my songs in the S970 Yamaha.
1-Use the Music Finder to find and play your songs.
2-Use the Music Finder to find the song. Then select a Registration Bank with eight band set ups that match the type of song you are playing. (Voices)
3-Use a bank with eight Registrations which give you eight variations of the same song. I hope what I have written is clear enough.
What method do you feel is the best – and why???
My Technic Kn7000 did not have a Music Finder or a Song Book -- The sheet music had the style and tempo written on it. The bank had eight variations I could use. There were ten banks with eight memory registrations. Each bank had a different type of band. Latin, Big Band, Slow rock, Disco –Ect.
Whatever your suggestion is it will be appreciated. John C.

John,
My preferred method with Yamaha most recently has been: 1. Use the Music Finder to play songs. For each MFD entry I would assign a keyword. Then depending on the gig I could use the keyword to Search 1 or Search 2 in the Music Finder and I’d have just the song entries I needed. It’s the closest thing to Korg’s Songbook ( albeit less powerful ) and that’s why I started using Music Finder. 2. I use(d) registrations for change the voices. For the most part I used a set of 8 registration buttons for my most used voices. Always worked well for me. I also have other registrations for just pianos, just Hammond sounding organs, saxes, brass, etc.

I used the Music Finder most of the time, and on rare occasions I used registrations, all of which were categorized. The chords for each song were pretty much in my head as were the lyrics. However, there were times when I need some assistance with both, and for that I had my 9-inch netbook PC, which was mounted on my custom console. When I went on breaks, which was very, very rare, I just clicked on either a lengthy midi file in the netbook, or fired up an MP3 from the netbook.
For my special voices, I kept them in my Expansion/User file where they could all be seen on a single screen and instantly accessed to R1 or R2, or L. Sure made life easy.
Here's a video I did a few years ago that demonstrates the ease of using the music finder on the fly, thus eliminating dead time between songs. Please overlook the mistakes as this was one of the first demo videos I tried to make and was a bit nervous about all this.
Good luck,
Gary

I used Registrations only--no Music Finder. I would have one bank per song. That way you can always see a list of the songs, and they were automatically put in alphabetical order. I used the first Registration of the Bank to call up the style, text, etc., and the voice I wanted to start with. The other seven Regs I only used to have instant access to seven more voices. I would actually have some go-to styles in them, but when the Reg. Freeze was on, only the voices would change--nothing else. It worked great for me.
for Yamaha kbs I never used Music finder, doesn't save transpose & text to small,. I used 1 registration per song, with 4 ots sounds..8 songs per page in specific folders,..in this department KORG does it right with "SONGBOOK"
John.... Ea7 uses a UPG system.... Easy to set up songs for instant recall or search find7er also... 10 on a page... And the beauty of having two displays too. It's all in the manual.

Steve, Gary, Dom, Bernie, and Donny, thank you; you guys are always right there.
Steve and Bernie we think so much alike it’s scary. I think it’s from the Technic days. Donny, short to the point, that helps. I find that reading the E A7 manual without having the keyboard is difficult. Don, I never gave a though to the Freeze button, great idea.
This is one of Synth Zone’s great features – A good part of what I have learned over the years has come from this place. Thank you again, John C.
