We've had a ton of rain the past week or so, and more on the way.
Last night it was raining hard most of the time I was at work, and as result the place was not crowded.
I told them I was going to play all songs about rain unless someone made a request. Didn't get a request for nearly two hours.
Here's some of the songs I played:
Who'll Stop The Rain-CCR
Blue Eyes Cryin' In The Rain-Willie Nelson
Raindrop Keep Falling On My Head-B.J. Thomas
Rhythm of the Rain-Cascades
Raining In My Heart-Buddy Holly, Leo Sayer
Over The Rainbow-Judy Garland
Neon Rainbow-Allan Jackson
Soft Rain-Ray Price
Raining in my Heart-Slim Harpo
Kentucky Rain-Elvis
Fire and Rain-James Taylor
Rainy Night in Georgia-Tony Joe White, Brooks Benton
Have You Ever Seen the Rain-CCR
I Love a Rainy Night-Eddie Rabbitt
Purple Rain (Yes I did!)
Songs About Rain - Gary Allen
Just Walkin' In The Rain-Johnny Ray
Cryin' In The Rain-Everly Brothers
Early Morning Rain - Gordon Lightfoot, Elvis
Every Fool Has a Rainbow-Merle Haggard
Rainy Day Woman-Waylon Jennings
Singing In the Rain-Gene Kelly
The Thunder Rolls-Garth Brooks
Hurricane-Leon Everette
Bad Moon Rising-CCR
Stormy Monday Blues
I'm sure there was another one or two...
The sad thing is I did probably half of them off the top of my head. Seems there is a lotta stuff in there. smile
I'm not sure more than a handful of people even noticed what I was doing. frown

I'd love to hear your versions of Rainy night in Georgia, Fire and Rain, and Stormy Monday. Love all three tunes.

I would have requested:

Here’s That Rainy Day ( jazz standard)

Fool in the Rain ( Led Zeplin)

I've heard Don's rendition of A Rainy Night In Georgia and it is excellent. He posted it on another forum and with luck, I'll be able to find the link.

Don, I think I posted this one here a long time ago, but if not here it is again: https://app.box.com/s/yw4wttpr7hbgiimubplqh121426br2gd

I didn't have any luck digging up Don Mason's rendition, which is a lot better than mine. He recorded it on the PSR-970 a little over a year ago and posted it on the PK

I told you his were a lot better than mine. Of the two, I prefer the S-970 rendition better, Don. That style is just perfect and the guitars sounded more realistic to me.

All the best,

Gary cool

I don't usually comment on SZ performances but I had to comment on the two posted by DonM. Aside from his 'legendary' guitar emulations, I think he really captured the essence of this beautiful tune. Not only were the arrangements tasteful but (most importantly to ME) neither one had that classic 'arranger' sound. I think that's because of the tasteful playing over and around the base arrangement. I may have slightly preferred the first one but both were excellent. If, for whatever reason, you need to use an arranger, this is how you should do it. JMO.

I agree Chas with Dons songs but he always does good, but who are we to judge? I just listen and absorb....maybe sometime you can conjure up a Hammond Organ version of some kind also?..

I'd love to Donny but I'd like to do mine with my guitarist (and maybe my tenor sax player). I'll give them a heads-up and see if we can do it (record) at next rehearsal.

Dang it Chas, you got me all choked up here. I'd better go record something else while I have that tear in my voice! Seriously, thank you for saying such nice things.
I need to go listen to them because I don't remember which is which.

I enjoyed both Gary's and Donnie's versions. They both played the "signature" lick, where I must have forgotten about it.
It's a great song and it is fun to hear the different renditions of it!

Donny you’re so right, different recordings of the same song tells a lot about us and our keyboards. I go out of my way to hear other musicians play. (O.M.B.)
Learning and comparing can tells us a lot about where we are and how to improve.
Gary, Don, Donny I enjoyed your music, keep them coming.
