This should of been "included" for in the newer S975? and an upgrade option for S970.

This is a company based in Mexico.
They have no affiliation with Yamaha. wink

I'm leery of 3rd party software; it might void the warranty. But it does sound great and I will check it out carefully. I've been sick all week with a terrible cold/flu and can barely walk to the driveway and back.

Hope you'll feel better soon.
The pack is not out yet.
Once it is out people will buy it and report. We'll know soon whether it's trustworthy and all that ... wink

Is it actually third party "software" being deployed on top of the OS of the machine or just sound/voice packs that allow the keyboard to play converted Genos styles appropriately?

It looks like they have no website. On youtube people are asking questions and are told to email this guy. My guess is Yamaha will shut these guys down and or lawsuit time. They are using the Genos Yamaha trademarked logo, I can't believe Yamaha is sponsoring this or will condone this selling of the Revo drums styles etc. My hunch is save your money on this one. Could be wrong, but I don't believe it.

It is legit. Over at PSRTutorial quite a few purchased it and are exremely satisfied with it.

Unfortunately some members over there (with each owning a Genos) did not like this new development (not coming from the Yamaha stable that is) and treated these so bad that this topic went completely sour.

There was a video playing the Genos styles direct on a PSR S970, but I guess they were forced to remove it. (I had this video and it was truly AMAZING to hear the Genos being demonstrated accurately on a mere S970). See that even now they talk about the "Ghenos" instead to try to avoid the flak they received. As far as I understand, this package even includes the Genos Revo Drums.

If I had a S970 upwards, I would already have it on my arranger.

People are surly pisssed after paying so much for a genos only to hear a S970 as shown sound so amazing with so called genos trickle down expansion software..these feelings wouldn't happen if genos was originally priced comparable to the other TOTL units in the first place.

Donny, call me "not pissed". 1. Frankievee's Genos price is comparable. 2. I have the 970 and the Genos. The exp. pack does not give you the quality of the Genos sounds. The 970 is a Tyros 5 with less features. Enjoy your 970, its a very good keyboard.

You'll find some satisfied users over at PSRTutorial - however, after the bashing they received from fellow but overly keen Yamaha supporters, they might not be so outspoken anymore.

I have read their feedback and it is safe for you to purchase this - satisfaction guarranteed. The price is good if still the same.

Please be so kind as to give your feedback here when installed. Not everyone can afford the Genos.

In my ears it don't sound like Genos at all.
But it not bad sounding and it's probably a good addon for the PSR for those who need it.

No, that's not the one, but thank you for sharing the link. In the specific video I am referring to, they play many of the Genos styles, including the intros and endings and to my ears it sounds EXACTLY like the style demos I've heard of the Genos itself.

In any case, I find it hard to believe that the Genos sounds better than this in real life - but not having one I am not going to argue. And I've listened to a few Genos demos... What I CAN say is that in these demos I hear a VAST/MAJOR improvement over my standard S770 onboard sounds.

In my opinion a PSR 970/975 plus 60 USD software is going to give one the absolutely best value for money that can be had with any currently available arranger. In South Africa for instance the S975 cost a sixth of the price of a brand new Genos. So in this instance this upgrade makes a LOT of sense.

If I can only find a version of YEM that would work on Windows XP, I'll install some of those on my S770 and post the recordings over here for all to compare. Unfortunately I find myself in a position now where I HAVE to use 15 year old technology and I love tinkering with sounds and styles.

Yes, I'd be quite interested in such a pack made for the S-770 that would content Genos styles and drum sounds first and formost. And then whatever more it could get in a small memory as 770 has...

Is it OK to post the link. I don't want to break any rules. I don't play the arranger any ware near as well as you guys. I got this after hearing on other forums that it worked for others. I had to pay $70.00. I think it does sound great. I did notice a number of styles are missing a voice from one of the 4 variations. I don't know if this is something I did wrong or not. I emailed them about it. It was no problem to go to the voices that were installed and pick one. Let me know if it is OK to post the link and I will.

Solomon: you can private message me with the link if your concerned. Third party add on’s are pretty much a buyer beware option. As far as I know...posting the link is only sharing information. Somebody correct me if I’m wrong.

We post all sorts of links over here. There is absolutely no reason for you not to post the link. Please go ahead. Nigel is not childish in the least.

There are quite a few looking forward to purchasing this Pack for themselves and we are keen to hear first hand recordings from actual users over here.

If my PSR S770 had more memory, I would have been the first one to post those recordings for all to evaluate for themselves. If only I could I would have immediately upgraded to the S975 so that I could also install this package.

I am seriously considering putting my Audya up for sale here in South Africa so that I could do just that...

Thank you. I have a feeling I might use it soon. Most definitely the best value for money that can be had in the arranger world.

Please be so kind as to post some recordings, showcasing only the main intro and ending of some styles. No need to play anything using the styles.

I think a note of caution on this Expansion Pack might be the fact that they list it as a Ghenos Beta Project. So, even though it may sound fine to me, there may be things going on that are not exactly 100% proper. I am just guessing. I did mention that a number of variations didn't have a voice when a variation was selected. I easily choose a voice, but still none was there at the initial start of the style. Just thought I would mention this. BETA to me means it is still not in its final form.

It sounds intriguing. But I think that if they merely recorded sound from Genos, just note after note, and then made samples out of it for PSR, it may sound authentic at first, but soon it will sound quite boring, because this is the sound that has already been generated and processed in a certain way (e.g. dynamic filters). Certainly, the original samples are fixed in Genos as well, but I’m sure, that the algorithms which produce the final sound are rather sophisticated. The videos may not show the difference, but playing it, I fear, may reveal the trick rather soon.

I really don't think they sampled the Genos as they do acoustic pianos. That would take unbelievable amounts of time and effort. The styles play very nice. I am just guessing but I have a feeling that they took the few styles they offer and modified the sound source available in the PSR S970 or Tyros 5 and came as close as they could. The install does load a lot of voices, but the Tyros 5 and the Genos are two entirely different sound engines. I didn't like the fact that they did not complete all of the OTS assignments. There are to many styles missing voices on different variations. I feel they should have made this known before you purchase it. I think someone with more talent than me could do a lot with the expansion pack, but it is an unfinished product as far as I can tell. It is very playable but still leaves a lot to be desired. Maybe as I learn more I will think differently, one way or the other.

Please be so kind as to take the time to make and post some MP3 demos here. Only intros and endings would suffice.

At PSRTut it was discudded how they created the sounds. It was a complete different method than expected, but Greek to a novice like myself. I'll see if I can stil find this discussion and post etracts over here.
