Last song I did Saturday night, when experimenting with the onboard vocal processor and harmonizer on the PSR S970.

clap as usual nice job Don clap .......is that 1 above VH? works well.......but the tracking problems really occur with using 3 or 4 voices on all Yamaha units..

Nicely done Don! You really stretched that vocal with some emotion on the high parts smile and keeping behind that beat is hard to do - bravo!

BTW: Are you using the Blue? The lows were terrific smile

Thank you guys.
I do almost always use one voice above.
This was not the Blue mic, because the 970 doesn't have phantom power. It was EV ND96.

That's great Don, one of those 'everybody's all-time favorites'. Now, as a non-paying customer smile , I have a request that may be a little out of your normal playlist; but what the heck, Willie did it, so I'm sure you can. It's been a favorite of mine every since it first came out (I think I first heard it by Eddie 'Mr Cleanhead' Vincent). It's called 'Ain't it funny how time slips away'. I just feel you could do a great job with it.

Well, I have done the Willie Nelson version, the Al Green version (more or less), and the Faron Young version. I'll dig one out in a little while.

Thanks Fran, nice job. When I looked it up to make sure it was Willie that wrote it, I was shocked to see how many people have recorded it; shows the versatility and durability of a good tune. I was wrong about Eddie Vincent though, it was Joe Hinton I was thinking of. Hard to say who did the best version (matter of taste and all) but I tend to like the later 'studio-refined' Willie Nelson version. Everyone knows I'm a big Willie Nelson fan; weird I know, and I'm sure part of it is his image smile .

I didn't mean to put DNJ-like pressure on Don (especially being a non-paying customer smile ), and I'm not sure what made me think of the tune, but as soon as I did, I just pictured Don doing it. Sure hope he doesn't screw it up (no pressure there smile smile smile ). If anyone else would like to give it a try, that would be nice; I love that tune (I'm eclectic in my taste).

Those are some hard acts to follow. Here's one I did on Ketron SD7 a few years ago.

Trivia, the guitar parts I was trying to play were meant to emulate Elvis' guitar player, and my friend, James Burton. Somewhere in my archives I have a recording of him playing this song with me!

Hey Chas, have you heard this one off Willie's latest album? It's something you get through.

Beautiful Don. Very soulful. I also really liked 'It's something you get through'. I think one thing that separates Willie's tunes from some of the others is the 'story-telling' feel of his lyrics. You feel like he's lived through every one of those 'stories' (and he probably has smile ). Thanks for doing a request for me. I appreciate that.

Okay, just found the old Joe Hinton version that first introduced me to it. He does it as an 'old-school' R&B ballad. He hits a couple of notes (especially at the end) that probably sounded like Don when he broke his toe smile.

Don, never heard this one before today. What a heart rendering song. It really triggered a lot of emotion for me.

Thanks for posting, but I seriously doubt that I could possibly sing this one without emotionally falling apart.

All the best,

Gary

What Chas doesn't know is that I personally taught Willie all he knows about songwriting.
Yes I did. Then came the guitar lessons I gave him. I thought he would never learn all those passing chords. He actually wore a hole in his guitar doing it.
Next came his stage appearance. I told him he needed an outlaw image so he let his hair grow long and got a bandana. By then he was so worked up I told him to calm down and he started smoking weed. In an effort to steer him away from that I taught him to play golf.
Only questionable thing is I told him don't worry too much about income tax.
Another little known fact: Willie has actually been dead for three years, but nobody has told him yet.
(It's MY thread and I can take it South if I so desire.) smile
