Having had a look at the pictures - maybe the large black area is covering/protecting a ribbon cable between the keyboard and the electronics in the 'Lid'
Gunnar, ref your remark "The big panel may look great for those of us who like aeroplanes and spaceships" I don't think there are many more controls etc than there are on the KN6000 and the hinged lift-up panel is not new (Yamaha PSR6100 many moons ago)

Yes I know Bill, but I'm still not sure if I
like it. Have to try before I know
Wondering about why Yamaha let that solution
go, and then Technics "re-launch" it?
Oh well, time will show.....

I had the Yamaha 6300 with the hinged lid and really like it, easy to see everything etc, so you might really like it. After buying 2 sound cards and the small Hard Drive for the 6000 I don't want to like the KN7000!

I had the 6100 and the 6300 Marilyn, and I think Bill Norrie did too!

the panel was very good at an angle.

you are OK with the soundcards - they, at least can be re-used

As Alec said, behind the black fabric are speakers (Left&Right) but not for bass. You now hear high & middle frequencies very clearly when you are playing. If I remember right, bass output is now rear side.

Jarmo

Alec you are a big help, I'm looking for excuses to not want to spend more money on a KN7000 and you help me out by telling me I can still use my Sound Cards!
