Have you considered a 2.1 system? Nothing kills my enthusiasm to play out as much as all the cables/setup. I have come to the conclusion that for small to medium venues, a 2.1 PA system is the best way for stereo. In a 2.1 setup, the small sub houses a mixer and serves as a stand. For the second speaker, you don't have to run an AC cable like you do when you deal with two active speakers.
Last year, someone posted on the M350 by Harbinger. $350 shipped. Cheap enough to play in the rain. Surprisingly, it had good, smooth sounds. I saw the benefits of a 2.1 system, and I purchased the EXM400 by Yorkville. There is also the ES503 by DB Technolgies and the new Nano series by HK Audio. I had a Nano 300. I liked it but it didn't do a good for vocal. I'd imagine that the Stagepas series by Yamaha will do well, too. I read good reviews on them.
I might add that I have a Stage Centerpoint for stereo operation, and I can combine it with the sub of either the EXM400 or the M350 when I need more bass.
