All you KN7000 fans...please give me a word of encouragement. I am becoming increasingly disenchanted with my KN ever since I bought that inexpensive underdog of a keyboard called the PSR2100. I keep comparing the sounds, the OS, the styles, THE PRICE, and ask myself, "should I even hold on to this piece of overpriced technology?" I prefer to play it the PSR. I prefer to listen to it. I prefer to take it out on my first wedding 'gig' next Saturday. For me it's the best keyboard. Please help me come to my senses! I WANT to love my KN, but I can't seem to tear myself away from my PSR! Am I losing my mind?

Sincerely,
Distracted

He who pays the piper calls the tune

if you are not happy with what you got then get something that will make you happy.Only you can be the judge

In any case you have already stated on Gen Arranger that you like the Yamaha better so why dither

Hi Tim, I own a Kn7000, and I just bought Tyros. I understand what you are feeling, the Yamaha is special. I'm not trying to be funny here, just make a point Many, many years ago my girl friend was so different, so special, there were things about her that I wanted, so I divorced my wife and married her. That was a decision bassed on an emotion---Wisdom came latter, I know now how wrong the decision was, I allowed no time to understand the whole picture.

IMO---The K7 is so far ahead of the Tyros in instrument sound quiality, construction, and there is no comparison with the sequencers.
The over all sound is beautiful.

So if that's the case why do I feel the Tyros sounds better?

IMO--The Tyros was designed for dance, for heavy strong basses and drums. Great for dancers. It leans more to contemp. music. After many years of professional playing. What I am used to hearing is coming from the Tyros, not the K7.

Each keyboard offers something different--If I was to sell one, it would be the Tyros.
In my home I want the the best, finest, pure, real-like sounds that I can afford.
When I played the Grand Piano and Trumpet on the Tyros, I was ready to send it back--Wrong! These are my two favorites instrument sounds.

They are both great keyboards---if you are working with mostly midi songs, Yamaha is better, much better. If you wish to create your own sequence, no contest, the K7 is much better.

You know, if I only could have combined the best parts of my wife and girl friend, Wow!!
And so it is with your two keyboards.

Here's is MY solution;

1-Keep the K7, and create good drums and basses I can.
2-Have less instruments playing on all the driving songs. Disco, shuffle, rock.
3-It is a tool, with time I can do fantastic things with it. I have a good electric drum I can add to the K7, it would then have better drums than the Tyros.
4-I ordered a psr2100, I changed the order and bought a Tyros. Although it's nice having two high end keyboards, it was not the best decision. The best of both worlds would be a K7, and the psr2100.It's smaller, great for small venues, and it cost less.
This would give me the features of both keyboards. It will also give me a backup instrument.

Tim, IOM, you are doing great, with a time you can reach a point you could never reach with the psr2100, the psr2100 does fall short in many areas. I loaned my K7 to a friend for a week, great idea. When I get it back, I will be in a position to give a good evaluation.
One other thing, I feel really blessed to have two great keyboards. Nice.

Enjoy, John C.

Hey Tim, You'll never ever know if I really had a girlfriend and divorced a wife, hee hee he

Hi Tim,
sometimes it's the novelty of a new instrument, especially if you're a hobbyist.

I decided to give music hobby up so I sold my baby grand & all my keyboards back in 1999 including my fairly new kn5000.

Two years down the track a friend got me interested in the keyboards again. At the time the Va7 had me intrigued because of it's variphrase sampler. I wasn't particularly interested in the kn6's as they were fairly similar to the kn5.

Instead of the va7 I actually ended up with a 9000pro. On reading the manual it seemed to have a lot of the features the kn's did ( mainly to do with style creation functions & the sequencer). Wasn't till weeks down the track, that I started to realize that it didn't do everything that I'd thought it could do. Even though it was a great machine, the gloss started to wear off for me, a few weeks after purchase. I kept it for about 2 years.

Currently your psr's the flavour of the month , and you may regret selling your kn7 on the spur of the moment. Like me, you may find the psr's have shortfalls in some areas.

If you're still as happy with it a few weeks or months down the track, then that's terrific.
My bank balance would be healthier if I could have found a cheaper keyboard than my kn7, but they just haven't made one yet that gives me all the features that my kn7 does.

best wishes

If you don't like it ...get rid of it.

But please don't come here, and try and give a backdoor criticism of the KN7.

We Technic Owners are too smart to fall for that Political tactic.

I have the KN7000 and Tyros. In my opinion, the KN7000 is streets ahead of the Tyros particularly as far as the friendliness of the operating system is concerned.
I made a bad choice and I'm not afraid to admit it

I have the KN6000 and after listening to all the bad mouthing about the KN7000 and the sd card system I marched right down town and bought the Yamaha PSR9000. I fought if for about 6 months and when everyone seemed to realize that the problems with the KN7 was them and not the machine, I agreed and went back to town and bought the KN7.
I think I have played the PSR9000 maybe twice since the KN7 came into the studio.
IT WAS DUMB TO BUY IT! I admit it. It is also interesting that the PSR9000 has depreciated almost 60 % in the year I have had it. the KN6 is two plus years old and has depreciated only 1/3 = 33% in over two years. Does this tell you something else.
Tim if you need or want to sell the Kn7 there is a strong market available to you. If you want or need to sell the Yam, oh darn, the used marked it pretty thin and the depreciation is AWESOME!
GET OVER IT!
Learn to love it. You will even know how to properly use it in only a few months and it will do things you never believed. Your Yam will end up sitting and depreciating just like mine
Best to you

I like, love, enjoy my KN7000--But Tim's question has merit. As good as the
KN 7000 is, it does fall short in some areas. IMO!

I feel an honest opinion must include negatives and positive.

And the same for the psr 2100 or Tyros.

Admitting to some of my short-commings does not make me feel any less a person. Neither will it diminish the true vaule of the
KN 7000.
I guess I'm trying to give Tim,a good honest perspective of each keyboard--IMO!!

No one keyboard has it all. My choice is still the KN 7000!! At home it has no competition. On the job, it needs some help.
IMO!

Hi Bebop,
my 9000pro did also. Fortunately I got a 30% discount when I bought it 2 years ago. But I still ended up losing another 30% when I sold it a few weeks back and basically the 9000pro is still a current model.

I must admit in all the years I bought and privately sold my keyboards ( back in the 90's and there's been quite a few) I've never had one depreciate so greatly. Maybe it's just a sign of the times.
Actually my kn's were the least hassle to find a new home for, and I used to get a fairly good price for them. Maybe it's because the kn's are fairly popular here ( in Aust.)& easy to find, wheras the up market yamahas are not as readily available.

Either way, it made me a bit wary, even though the psr2xxx's seem great value for money.

best wishes
Rikki

Dear distracted minister of music, I think you are preaching to the wrong crowd! We already have been saved and are in musical heaven! I hope the two newly wedded people you are playing for stay together longer than you and your keyboards. But then again . . . . . . . I think Larry Hawk has smelled it out, kind of a strong odor that floats by every so often, don't you think?
