Average player makes the instrument sound average. Put Baartman behind that Genos and it makes me want to buy one. My opinion

Good demo, styles and songs done the way most arranger players use the keyboard.
Nice. smile

I'd rather hear the average player use one make it more natural sense of what it really sounds like...not dreaming of what you'll ever sound like..
your playing skills are just that... YOUR PLAYING SKILLS
only YOU can change that if you want to.

Decent enough player, wasn't crazy about his singing. But a good demo and a nice sound overall.

I disagree. When a real pro showcases an instrument, it brings out the hidden beauty not heard from an average player. I try to raise MY bar and get ideas from the professionals (including some great arrangement ideas). Dreaming is a good thing, IMO.

Listening to Baartmans and others of that caliber makes me practice more and more every day and I do try to change my act by having top talent ideas, not average ones.

Great demo thanks for sharing Donny. I also like the fact it was like most Arranger players preform. Backing their vocals with various styles and sounds. I really love the original sounds he uses to great effect. Wish I was that creative.
That brings me to a dilemma. I've spent way too much time programming Registrations on my BK9 and I tend to stick with a small collection of usable sounds, especially for the RH fills and backing. Mostly Piano. WHY ? because I'm trying to connect with the general audience and I feel if you start getting too "electronic" or esoteric with your sounds you lose them as they don't feel its real. Bartmanns crowd was there to see an Arranger so they knew what to expect. Biggest keyboard draw here now is Dueling Pianos which is really not. Its just one Piano at a time playing and the other person singing and doing Tambourine. But it is just piano, no other sounds. Another reason why the Acoustic Guitar / Singer thing is so big. Peope relate to a familiar guitar and can see the preformer playing ( even if it is only 4 chords LOL ! )
Another reason I don't thin I'll jump to a new Arranger, I'm tired of programming. Rather spend my time on the music. IMHO BTW the Genos sounds great !

I think he is more than pro enough to demo Genos or other arrangers for his audience, both home players as well as 'ordinary' arranger players.
Most likely he do this demo for a musicshop, and if Yamaha should aim at only the 'pro players', there would not be many Genos sold.
How many 'pro's do you think is in that crowd you see in the video, and how many genuine professional musicians use an autocomparranger?? They most often play a solo instrument.
Baarthman is excellent player and do great demoes, no doubt, but if a demo is too complex stuff you aim for special users.
Just my $0,00000002

I’ve seen this guy perform before. His performance is decent, but the audio quality of the Genos is excellent.

Your very welcome Bill....all good points and no one cares...just sing your heart out with great vocalsand back yourself with a decent groove is all you need,..either a style, smf, backing tracks, etc,...
it's all good and people love it. have fun mix it up..

let's face it most sit there half asleep looking at the demonstrator who is way more excited about the KB then anyone in the audience saying to themselves, .."sounds pretty good" but I could never play like that!! eek2 then clap a few times and go home bewildered confused2 they should be honest and say in the beginning of the demo...Ladies and gentlemen I will now show you how great I can play this kb but believe me you will never sound like me ever!!....lol,.... ok let's get started surprised

I agree with most and liked it. Typical marketing, using top performers to demonstrate means you're going to sound like that if you buy one, or using top models means you're going to look like that if you buy that exercise equipment or take that pill..sure....

Pro sponsored demos also talk more and play less to highlight features, but if it is in an unfamiliar language it is not helpful.

Agreed

I think we need both.
You got Martin Harris and Peter doing it's thing so you know what the instrument can sound like.
Then you get a player like the video above and you know what the KB with the average player in the real world will sound like ...

Very good demo.............Baartman’s “sells the sizzle, not the steak.” Most of us will never play like Baartman’s even with all the practice in the world. This demo as already been said is more real world.

At $6K, I would expect to hear the gems that an experienced player can highlight. If I only heard the normal stuff, I'd not come away satisfied in spending that much money. It's similar to driving a Beemer in the senior citizen's lane - A Fusion can do that.

Suki, I understand your point, and if look at all the demoes at web,
you'll find a lot made by Yamaha that is more advanced demoes.
Those that Baartman does are also often 'deeper' than the one above.
Again, if look at the public in the video, mostly well grown up and older people.
They hardly tap feet to the music. They is probably there because of free coffee,
softdrinks and some 'schlager' entertainment, not because they want deep
technical info about advanced features.
I think Baartmans demoes and this one are done for different usergroups.

Btw, I did not pay $6k either, far less, but still not the cheapest I ever bought ...... shocked

Hi GJ,

I would love a Genos - who wouldn't? And I have communicated with Frank about the (2) he recently had for far less than $6K.

But I'm pretty busy live on the 3X (15 upcoming gigs in 6 days), so a new arranger is not a wise choice - plenty to do on the 3X.

I enjoy your 'soft' posts, you're a kind fellow. I hope you enjoy your Genos (jealous zuki) smile

Thanks, Donny:

The "country sounding instruments (voices) certainly sound much improved from previous "Yammie" Styles. While watching, I noticed two things:

1. The bottom of the Genos appears to be white in color (or lack thereof, LOL) and has an unusual shape if it isn't being distorted by the camera angle.

2. I was surprised at the lack of attention the audience appeared to demonstrate... must not be music lovers??? ...and I thought the demo artist did a more than adequate job... especially since he's German singing a ton of American Songs.

Here we go again... it's all about Fords and Chevys (Brand Loyalty)... but to me, this Yamaha Flagship Machine is a winner despite it's unaffordable price. (Guess I should have asked for a better retirement package?)

This has turned into an interesting discussion. I for one enjoy all of the demos. The pros and the semi-pros equally. I for one really don't expect to be moving up to the Geno's anytime in the future. Maybe if I win a lotto I might go for a psr s975 or the Korg pa1000 but in the meantime I'm having a ball learning what I can do with my used 3000. For the most part I think I can duplicate most of the stuff I hear on the demos backing my songs. I'm trying to get where I can move around the system without thought and be creative with what I have. I have come to the conclusion that for the most part I have all the arranger I need for North Central Arkansas and the NH circut. Would I like a new kb? Of course! But I am very happy listening to the assorted demos and picking up learning tips from each.

This is a great demo for this forum. It clearly shows how wonderful the keyboard sounds when used in various venues by a somehwhat above average musician who is also a great singer. And, it also reveals how great the new VH2 system sounds as well when in the hands of a good entertainer.

Good find, Donny,

Gary cool

The point he is making DNJ, is why buy a VASTLY overpriced piece of gear when what you have is working perfectly for you. And the Genos still has a vocal harmonizer that is inferior to the other arranger brands. And it still has a rather clunky operating system.
I will admit it sounds way better than any former Yamaha arranger. My current wife is way better than the others I had too. smile

+1

I've been thrown from the back of a horse a couple times, decided getting back on was not a smart thing to do. I always thought that was a dumb saying, and a lot of rodeo riders I knew felt the same way.

I once knew a guy that married the same woman three times - I guess he sided with DNJ's old saying. He's still paying for those mistakes. wink

^ LOL! Anyone who married the same woman three times should've been the guy that thought wedding bells sounded like alarm clocks.
