Who is NOT using a Rock-n-Roller kart on gigs & Why?
The other day I saw this husband wife duo unloading their car with gear at a hotel, speakers, keyboards ...multiple stands, assorted gear bags, disco light racks too,......using no RR Kart or anything not even using kb cases......two kbs just wrapped in a terrycloth bath towel under his arm...and they bot had to make at least 6 or 7 trips in and out exhausted before you even start.....
I just don't get it what am I missing?? confused1

Earl, I paid about $150 for my R-10 Rock And Roller cart more than 20 years ago. I modified mine with a second tier made from 1-inch aluminum channel. It only takes 15 seconds to attach the second tier. It's the best investment any working musician can make.

I've been using a cart I bought at Home Depot for $50 20 years ago. It's worked great for me, but I would like to up grade to a Rock N Roller soon, because I'm carting around more and more gear around, and the Home Depot Cart doesn't expand/contract like the Rock N Roller.

$100 gig.

20% Federal tax
10% State tax
15% Self-emloyment tax

I will just have to use my $35.oo home depot cart for a while longer!

Another vote for R&R and I wasn't even using an arranger when I worked nursing homes (guitar and backing tracks). Several of the facilities were large with different sections and required a considerable trek to get where you were going. I remember one facility where after a certain hour you could only use one door to leave (for security I guess) and it was not close to where I setup. R&R was also a good conversation starter-the residents were often fascinated the fact that it changed size.

One 'problem' on this board is that sometimes people portray an "if you're not doing/using what I do/use you're doing it wrong" attitude ...
I have no doubt that a RnR cart is excellent, but I have been using a less expensive model for several years now and it works very well ...
One can buy a Mercedes, but a Ford will do the same job ...

I REALLY DO use roadies...my son and grandson. Regular job is a house one. anything else is either a group job (kid and grand kid move, hook-up and test all equipment) or a show up and play with different groups. Then, most I'll carry is a keyboard, guitar and personal monitor.

The may in fact use a Rock N Roller. I'll check.

I really do too! I just drive up to the door of where I work and the valet asks if I have anything to unload. If yes, he will take it in, or get help from busboys. They have been doing this for years and are very careful.
If I'm doing a job at a different location I sometimes use the rock'n roller cart.

I agree!! My wide body Harbor Freight Platform suits my requirements perfectly.

This platform truck gives you up to six square feet of carry space making it easy to move large, awkward and heavy loads. Rubberized deck has a nonskid surface. Rubber edge bumper protects walls. Quick-release handle folds down for compact storage.
Hauls up to 440 lbs.
5 in. smooth rolling casters (2 rigid, 2 swivel)
Steel construction
Powder coat finish

My JBL Eon One came with transporter case with wheels.

Regards,

Jerryghr

I find the weight, and bulk of the R&R cart to be counterproductive in many situations. It's heavy to lift into my car, bulky, and difficult to store with other gear, as well. My rig is very compact, and I can do quite nicely with 1 trip, using a standard, folding type cart. A traditional, L shape dolly. I got mine at GC for $54.
I only use the R&R when I do Casino work, or I need to use a parking garage to get to my destination. For simple in-out deals ... even withOUT a cart, I'm in and out in 2 trips.

The great thing about the Rock And Roller Cart is it was designed by musicians, for musicians. It has features that most of the Home Depot and Lowes carts do not have, including the ability to extend or contract it to nearly any desired length, folding handles that make transporting it very easy and compact, great load capacity, curb skids that also work on carpeted stairs (I think they would damage wooden steps) and the ability to add a second tier in a matter of seconds, thus eliminating the stacking of gear on top of other gear. That second tier, as you can see in my video, also acts as a work station during setup. Sure, it cost a bit more, but to me, it was well worth the added expense to have something this versatile. For many years prior to being introduced to the Rock And Roller Cart, I used a heavy-duty, convertible, refrigerator dolly that weighed twice as much as the R&R Cart. It had balloon tires on the back, hard tires on the front, but no front handle and no ability to add a second tier.

The choice is yours,

Gary cool

Choose the RR cart size you need... Many to choose from... Back and front rails are essential so nothing falls off.... I love my r8, r10.... To each their own.

It's fine ... sometimes. Definitely not essential for everyday work, but I agree it has it's place in the arsenal. My second pet peeve about it it storing it during a performance. Just one more thing to hide from view.

The other thing I liked about R&R was parking. Just pull in and find a good space, load it up and roll it all in. No need to pull up to the door and then go back out and move your vehicle. I will agree that it can be overkill depending on the situation and also agree that it is a pain to find a place to put it during performance.

I never had a problem finding a place for the cart after setting up, and in my setup, the cart made a great place to store the keyboard case, and all the other stuff that was not part of the setup.

I have had two R-10s and, like Gary, stacked my cases in them, or, if space was really limited, I would collapse it and find a little spot. The main difference with the second one was going to solid tires. No more inflating soft tires.

Well. when the lottery comes in for me I might buy one but for now I'm going to save my $ for a newer kb or pa. When doing the Gunshows one of the promoters had a bunch of the harbor fright fold ups and they worked very well. I may have to get one of those until I hit the big time. Unfortunately I've gotten myself into the same situation as Willie Nelson did and not only do I have to pay the taxes for this gig but I have to pay on the back taxes I didn't pay b4. So there will be no R&R cart (or much of any thing else) for quite a while.
