Hi Tony...

Nobody asked "What would you pay to see Rieu perform?" I'm with you on many groups playing for specific audiences... and that's fine with me... as long as I don't have to buy a ticket. I can appreciate a little of it... but at heart, I'm a small venue seeker.

I don't care much for music videos, either... unless strippers are involved... LOL! (Not really!)

He comes from my home town..

After his studies he started out with a 4 man chamber ensemble
Because they tought he wasn’t good enough as solo violin player..
Even back then he was an entertainer..

He worked his way up from there slowly, that took him over 2 decades..

Lots of flash...not much substance.

That‘s part of it. André Rieu takes account of the audience‘s lacking classical music education and patience and breaks it down into easily consumable chunks, integrated in an entertaining show.
He won‘t earn the respect of classical musicians, but that‘s not his target group, so why not, he entertains his specific audience.

Classical music for the masses..
He is not only entertaining but also teaching..
And preserving part of our musical history..
Many people need to learn again about classical music
And this is a great entry point..

First class entertainment for people who like "nice" music. Knows his audience and does a fabulous job. Has a reputation for looking after everyone involved in the production. May not be my cup of tea but I can appreciate the craft.

Of course ... he wouldn't be as successful if he wasn't doing something right ...
