I traded my Roland Integra 7 for the Dexibell SX7 module..
It works much like Nord, i.e. You can replace the stock sounds with downloadable sounds

Its primarilly a piano module for me.. i have loaded a Steinway, Bechstein, Fazioli and Kawai grand in addition to my Yamaha grand and Bösendorfer in the MODX.. and the virtual grand in the Gemini..

No need for software, this way it adds the whole soundspectrum of piano’s in my small setup. And the MODX is a perfect controller for them.


Sometimes you just need a new toy, just for your personal fun.. and with selling and buying used gear, it doesn’t even have to cost any money. I even made €200 on this trade..

No, there is a huge amount of piano samples in it..
It was never disposable.. altough...
But i must admit now, that the Dexibell piano’s are much more natural and detailed..

Its more like i traded a whole lot of great sounds for a few even better sounds, that fill the gap in my setup...

I used Roland a lot for piano-dp-organ-supernatural synths, but that changed in recent months

in my current setup
Gemini rocks for Organ, dp, analogue synth sounds
And the MODX and Genos fill everything else..
-FM
-Super articulation sounds (which i prefer above Roland super natural acoustics)
-Ensemble voices
-strings (also the Gemini has some great strings)

So in the end, i was only using the integra ocasionally for my dose of Steinway...
The Dexibell seems to fit that need better, and adds a few other grands to the mix..
The Dexibell outshines the Integra 7 where it comes to acoustic piano’s
The Dexibell is almost on par with the top software based piano’s
I think dexibell might offer the best piano sound in hardware on par or better with Nord.



But in the end, the decision was mostly based on my GAS for something new.
Because, no there was no need, just a want want want....

Indirectly i controll them from the Genos..

So how does my setup work?

I have the Genos connected to the MODX.
I have set Genos in such a way that it only sends midi fo R1, R2, R3, L on midi channels 9,10,11 and 12. So when i choose external voice on my Genos it actually controlls a channel on the MODX.

On the MODX, i have connected the Dexibell to midi out, and the GEmini to the dexibells Midi trough and the Gemini's midi trough goes to the MODX again. Gemini uses channel 9 and 10. The Dexibell uses midi channel 11, 12, 13 (and 14 for selecting whole registrations) And the Genos uses channel 15 for chord recognition. Channel 16, i do not use. (channels 1 to 8 are connected to Genos Song parts 1 to 8)

So yes, i played the Piano sounds from the Genos.
They sound lovely.. Espescially the downloadable Platinum piano's.
They are a Yamaha, a Steinway, a Fazioli and a Bechstein.. But they are huge (there is also smaller versions downloadable of the Bechstein and the Yamaha, the Vivo Grand is a steinway)

But this is where you have to understand the Dexibell..
It comes with 80 sounds which is 1.5GB of rom
And then there is user sounds 1.5GB of flash-RAM
now your actuall sound setup you select from both these sources, but its only a total of 1.5 GB RAM.

So if you want to use External sounds you have to remove internal sounds from your setup.. And as said the Platinum sounds are huge, at best you can fit 2 of them in the external memmory. But each of those sounds comes in 4 variations..

The Platinum sounds are in my opinion the best piano sounds available in hardware. But even the Normal GRand piano sounds are very very good and are on par with the MODX CFX and Bosendorfer piano's. Maybe even better because i prefer the characteristics of the Bechstein and the Steinway above the CFX for most playing.

In my opinion the high end piano sounds on MODX which use 4 voices on itself, are allready a step above the Genos. And then to say that i don't think the Genos CFX is bad at all, it is a huge improvement above the T5, and on par with what the PA4x has to offer.

So since i have a Yamaha and Bosendorfer in my MODX, i decided to have the VIVO grand (Steinway), EXP German Grand(Bechstein) and Platinum Italian (Fazioli) in my setup. Which for a sample set have 4 different piano sounds. and then there is room for a string, choir, DP's and pads for layering with the Piano sounds..

So in the end there is about 20 sounds in my setup, but the Fazioli Platinum sound allready makes the unit worth its money. But then thats because this is My favorite grand and the sounds from the Dexibell come really really close.

Obviously this is a studio setup and not geared to 'live performance'. Seems one would need a 'producer' to monitor and select the voices, unless of course the idea is to select the best voice for a particular arrangement and use it throughout the song. In any case, the thought process while playing would seem overwhelming to me, although for a pianist, the choices must be wonderful. Luckily for me, the choices for a 'good' B3 are simple; find a 'clonewheel' you like, sit down and start jammin' . Sounds like a great setup Bachus, but for me it would just expose my bad playing .

i was thinking if i got one that i would connect usb to unit and play thru Genos i do not want to re asign i use ost midi parts in songs

but that may be the only way

a simple templet on controling exteral midi with Genos would be nice
