Since we have been talking about appearance on stage, etc, in another post, tomorrow I will be trying out this product to get that salt & pepper look vs the all grey/white old man look I have now. Has anyone tried it?...

Tried it years ago - garbage, looked like shoe polish and not at all natural. I switched to Garnier Nutruese #60, Acorn, combed it in, let it sit for about 8 minutes, then jumped in the shower and rinsed it thoroughly. Looked perfectly natural, even my hair cut lady didn't know I used it. She thought it was my natural color, and it looked the same color as it did when I was 30.
Good luck,
Gary

WIGS????
disposable razor ... 2 minutes in the shower ... 20 seconds to dry ... BOOM! Grooming finished. (This pic is older ... I don't even keep the peach fuzz on the sides anymore ... and don't miss it!) ooops - didn't realize this was already my profile pic! Hello? Department of redundancy department!

As a entertainer, I’m totally in favor of trying to look your very best, weather it be dying your hair, shaving your head or wearing a wig. Of course dress sharp, and stay fit too. Image is important!

Shaving my head is just playing the hand I was dealt. Why try to cultivate something on my head that grows wild on my arse? lol It's mostly gone anyway, go I'm just cleaning up the mess that's up there. That circle graph is correct - women really don't mind at all, in fact, they prefer it to some of the comb-overs, and dye jobs that some try. One thing about being bald ... it's a little unfair to us white guys. A bald black head is sexy as hell, but a bald white head just looks like a thumb!🤣

I experimented with hair color about 20 years ago. Too much trouble, and you are really not fooling anyone much. If they don't like the color of my hair, then heck with 'em. I usually wear a hat anyway.

My hair actually turned snow white when I was just 35 years of age and endured a very traumatic and painful injury that left me paralyzed from the waist down for 5 months. I spent 3 weeks in the hospital and the next 5 months was spent learning how to walk again, something the surgeon said was a 50/50 shot at best. I got lucky.
It was about a decade later when I decided to go full time into music, something I always dreamed of doing. Many of the ADs I approached said they would call me if something came up. Others hired me more or less to provide them with an audition, which 99 percent of the time, turned into a full time job.
One of the AD's, who later became a good friend, said to me about a year after she hired me "You know, when we first met, I thought you were much older because of the white hair." I explained to her what happened, and she said, "maybe you should try dying your hair - it would shave 10 to 20 years off your appearance." She was right. A few weeks after dying my hair to the same color it was when I was just 30 years old, I returned to many of the ADs that never called, and essentially turned me down for a job. All but one hired me on the spot! The one that did not hire me called me a few months later to do a special party and after the party booked me once a month for the next two years. I sincerely believe they did not recognize me with medium brown hair. Yes, appearance does count, and age discrimination does exist - no doubt about it.
Now that I am fully retired, when I look in the mirror in the morning, there's a white haired old man looking back at me. Even now, though, I have thought about spending $7.95 at the local Rite Aid and picking up the dye. Just might do it to see of the lady that cuts my hair notices. Could be interesting.

Just might have to give it a try, Donny. Here's a recent photo taken at the restaurant where we were going to meet up. The blond haired lady standing between Carol and I is my younger sister. She is 4 year younger than me.
All the best,
Gary

Same here. It really got too be a nuisance fast and my wife, she has very good taste ( hey she married me ) says I look so much better with natural grey. I still have a lot of hair and don't get it cut too short. I laugh when I go to the barber and see these older guys with barely nothing on top coming in. I think its just to get out of the house with them.

Ok, so what's next? Botox, Facelift, fake 'glutes', girdle, lifts (shoes), penile implant? May as well go all out .
Better get rid of those 'mom jeans' and that flip-phone, though, they're a dead giveaway.

No chas I'm waiting for someone to tell me what it's like to use the blue diamond pill.
A man and his wife went to the chemist to pick up his prescription for Viagra. Seeing the $10 per pill price, the man was astonished – but his wife had a different opinion – “Oh, $40 a year ain’t too bad”.

Well, you've seen the before photo. If not, here it is:
Here's the After video from just an hour ago:
Carol, who after 58 years of nuptial bliss, who tells it like it is said "Well, I hate to admit it, but you really do look 10 years younger." Now, you guys can decide what you want to do - of course, Tony and UD are excluded from this for obvious reasons.
All the best,
Gary

Not travlin the high seas this week, Donny - way to hot and humid. Today, the forecast is for 95 degrees f with 90-percent humidity. Right now in beautiful downtown Key West, Florida the temperature is just 90 degrees with 57 percent humidity. Our air quality index is code red, which is bad for old folks with nasty lungs. In Key West, they don't have an air quality index - the air is pure and clean there all the time.
Thanks for the hair challenge, Donny, I needed that!

Got Pics of the New bald look....... Henni I myself have thought about doing it also.. I haven't ruled it out as of yet. maintaining it is a concern..?

I always saw myself from the front only. She took a pic showing the HUGE bald spot at the back that I could never see myself. I was horrified when I saw this and gave in to her request. Now I'm trying to get used to the new me. I can't help myself from constantly stroking my head - it sure feels funny to say the least.

Believe me, Tony, the gal that does my haircuts is tougher than my wife when it comes to this kind of stuff. And, she knows she wouldn't be loosing a customer - Carol no longer cuts my hair and this is the best hair dresser that is close to home and only charges me $12 cause I'm an old fart.
Does Lydia know about all those proposals you get while on stage? Sure hope not. LYDIA - DO NOT READ THIS!
Jerry, very, very few people age gracefully. Life just isn't all that fair, but in my case, I beat myself to Hell, but it sure has been a wild ride to this point. Just got home from grocery shopping, my blood pressure has fallen to 97/45, but my pulse is 110. Oxygen level on supplemental oxygen is 94 at a flow of 3 ltrs per minute - not good.
All the best,
Gary

Growing older gracefully is about enjoying life. I accept the fact that aging is natural and normal. It's about accepting the inevitability of getting older, taking care of your mind and body, and being your best self at any age.

Yup. Look at Phil Collins - it'd didn't slow him down looking like Squiggy's grandfather all these years. James Taylor too ... they' don't need wigs, or sprays, and neither do I! Hat's off gents! Shine on eight balls!

Tracey, the only reason I did this is to prove a point - it can make you APPEAR YOUNGER LOOKING, which can result in more music jobs. Age discrimination exists and has existed for as long as I can remember. For ME, an inexpensive dye job resulted in a huge increase in the number of jobs I landed yearly. I went from just over 200 jobs a year to nearly 450 jobs a year. To ME, it made good business sense. For those with no hair, they do not have this option to work with.
This has nothing to do with vanity - it's a business tool that for some, can be very effective. When we go on stage, and perform in front of an audience, most entertainers want to look their best. In the past, most top entertainers dress accordingly, they wore sharp pressed slacks, sport coats or tuxedos, tie, highly polished shoes, clean shaven, and neatly trimmed hair. We tried to look our best, and at the very least, better than our audiences. We took pride in out appearance, both on stage and off.
When I played the restaurant circuit, I wore a tuxedo every night I was working. I frequently received complements about my attire and professional appearance, which often resulted in more money in the tip jar. Anyone that has worked the restaurant entertainment circuit knows that the tip jar can provide as much or more income per night than the salary they are paid from the facility.
Now, do I enjoy looking a bit younger than my age - ABSOLUTELY! Who doesn't? When they take my dead arse to the Maryland Anatomy Lab at the University of Maryland Hospital, the med student cutting me apart to learn human anatomy really won't give a damned about my hair color. He or she will be looking at my internal organs and trying not to throw up or pass out. Been there - done that!
Bottom line, when you look your best on stage, you will likely book more jobs, and make more money. Nothing wrong with that!

Henni, I have never felt unworthy, though I have lost much of my physical strength due to the lack of oxygen in my bloodstream. However, because I am a hardheaded, old fart, I tend to try and continue to do many of the things I have done all my life, such as spend time sailing the waters of Chesapeake Bay, doing chores around the house, keep the gardens in shape, etc... When I go grocery shopping, I must now resort to using one of those electric carts, but I still manage to get the job done. It just takes a bit longer to do some of those things, but I am too damned hardheaded to at least not try and overcome the health issues.
As for eternity, not everyone believes the same as you, and from my point of view, it seems as if everyone wants to go to heaven, but not many wish to go tomorrow.
All the best,
Gary

Absolutely not, Tony. Maybe you should reread my posts. I was referring to what worked for ME! Dying my hair made me appear younger, which resulted in more jobs for ME, though I was still in my early 40s, but had snow white hair. If you don't have any hair, then you do not have that tool in your arsenal.
In today's world, I guess anything goes when it comes to appearance on stage while performing music. Hell, Jimmy Buffett doesn't wear shoes, he wears ragged jeans, and never combs his hair. He made more money than Davy Crockett. I like to play ZZ-Top music, but I would be embarrassed if I looked like him on stage.
My point was about Age Discrimination, which anyone over age 50 that has tried to get a job, knows exists. My dad began driving a truck when he was just 13 years old, delivering milk. By the time he was 16, he was driving a big rig, often making two local runs a day. At age 50, the company he worked for relocated to Philadelphia. He was unwilling to relocate, and applied for a job with Pantry Pride. He was turned down, and the PR guy said he was too old to be driving a big rig. He contacted his Teamster's Union representative, who immediately went to the PR guy and informed him that the union would shut them down by the next day if they didn't reconsider. He got the job, then when they found out just how skilled he was, they made him a yard jockey at nearly twice the usual salary.
After a year, I went back to see many of the ADs that turned me down for a job earlier. I don't believe they recognized me with brown hair - nearly all hired me and I booked them for the entire year, and often the following year as well. I am thoroughly convinced that had I returned with my snow white hair, I would have not been hired at all.
As I stated several times, for ME, this was a business decision, one that was highly effective, and I still get calls for jobs two years after retiring, though most are for private parties. Now, I'm sure that bald, old guys get lots of work, but I'm equally sure that someone that looks like a young version of Elvis would garner more jobs at the same locations. His hair was among his many trademarks, right up there with his entertainment talent and his attire. All those things have an impact and age discrimination still exists in this day and age.
Gary
