Eric Clapton's Wonderful Tonight is one of my most requested songs.
Here is a link to a folder with my recordings of it on four different arrangers, Korg PA4X, Ketron SD7, Yamaha PSR S970 and Roland EA7.
They were all done live on the job and may have mistakes, but if you have opinions on the various keyboards, I'd love to hear them.

Wow, fabulous as usual Don. I preferred the E-A7 version, next is the SD7.

Roland EA-7 and Ketron SD7 both excellent and tied for First IMHO.
S 970 a solid 2nd
Guitar on the Korg PA4X too chorusy ... but otherwise great performance
My 2 cents

Interesting that the Yamaha and the Korg styles were both converted from a midi file to style. I converted the Korg with the built-in midi-to-style bot.
The Roland and Ketron used factory styles.
Thanks guys.

Well, it's 4X hands down for drum pattern, and sounds. I would thin out the backing guitars a bit, since you're so good at the lead guitar. I like a less present, more lush backing behind the lead line, myself. They're all good, but the EA7 had too heavy a kick sound for me. Nice job, all around ... AS USUAL.
You're a brave man to ask for critiques on this platform.

I agree with everyone. smile

Overall sound, I would rate the SD7, EA7,PSR970, PA4x.

Guitar (lead), EA7, SD7, PSR970, PA4x.

Balance, EA7, PSR970, SD7, PA4x.

Style, EA7, SD7, PA4x, PSR970.

Don I suspect you got the answer you expected.

My guess you were thinking about the SX900 (should be better than the PSR970) smile

Ketron is a bit overpriced compared to some others. frown

You already know the EA-7 you now have is the one.. and unsurpassed bang for the buck smile

And maybe Dave could use an extra PA4x grin

Make an offer Dave. I LOVE the PA4x but I'm having trouble handling the semi-weighted keys for four hours a night. My hands are getting old. smile

I am grateful for the critiques. I'm a little surprised the Korg finished so low, but it may be that converted style is partly to blame.
The vocal processing and harmony on the Korg and Ketron are built into the keyboard. The ones used on the Roland and Yamaha were the T.C. Helicon Harmony M.

I don't have a 900. DickieT is getting one. I will audition it, but no longer expect to change at this time.

Have to agree with others here....EA7 has the edge on this one, but all sounded great! Super work!

After a second listen, I stand by my first impression. Korg 1st, Yamaha 2nd, but only in the acc.
The drum pattern is more accurate in those two, and that stands out to me. There are only a few songs that I'd rather not use generic patterns for, and because of the slow tempo, this is one of them. I believe that the hi hat pattern is crucial to selling this beat, and that was the basis for my choice. The general public will probably never care, because the song is so well loved, and if you sing it with feeling, it'll sell, but as one with an inside track on the details ... I need the bass and drums to be more complementary to the original feel.

Dave, Don mentioned that the Korg and Yamaha were derived from converted SMF's... thus the detailed drums etc.. The Ketron and Roland are factory styles.(generic)

Agree with Dave about Korg and Yamaha left hand. Like EA7 followed by SD7 right hand. And TCH harmony M.

one song doesn't make a keyboard...there are too many variances that can be edited to change perimeters on all units..besides that players abilities also.

So true, Donny.
For me the Yamaha and Korg styles worked the best.
The song is too slow for an 8th note drum pattern that you were using on the Roland.
I was just listening on my phone, no headphones around here for me to use now, so maybe I’ll listen later under better sonic conditions. As Gary said, all were “damned good”
It just comes down to nit picky musical preferences. I’m sure your audience would be happy with any of ‘em.

All points very true ... and I think DonM was just asking for peoples thoughts on THIS song played on THESE keyboards ...
Obviously, that does not make one keyboard better than the other, which is personal preference anyway ...

Hi Don
EA7, tossup between Pa4x and psr, last sd7.

Just a thought, maybe next time just number them, and let us know which was which at the end.
Sometimes deep down, we may just be biased towards a particular brand, without meaning to be.

EA7 then Pa4x, SD7, then S970. Plus one next time just number the selections don’t tell us which keyboard is being played.

Don, you truly are a gifted musician. You could pick up any axe and make it sound good.
The examples all show keyboard strengths and each has it’s own character. The only reason you can pick out those differences is because you hear them side by side.

Another great comparison would be the SX900. But whatever you end up with...the audience isn’t gonna tell the difference anyway. Great job!
Mitch
