Hi guys,

I'm playing a PSRS970 through a TC Helicon Voice live rack. I use full keyboard mode and ride styles for the most part. Occasionally, I'll use an mp3 file.

For some reason, the TC has stopped recognizing any midi signals from my psr.

The TC seems to be operating normally otherwise. It hasn't been dropped or sustained any weird power surges.

TC is set to midi channel 1...

On the PSR, when I press function and select the midi tab, I see ten different presets for (what I assume are) different midi presets.

I've never messed with this in my life. I assumed the default setting for midi was channel 1, like most keyboards.

When I first looked at the midi folder, "PEDAL 2" was selected, but no harmonies.

I tried setting it to various other presets with no success.

I've replaced my midi cable and am now using a brand new Roland Gold series cable.

Any help or suggestions on how to get back to having the harmonies work again would be really appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Bill

Hi Bill:

Although I own a 970... I don't use TC Helicon and have not yet connected a foot pedal to the unit I purchased from Don Mason.

Maybe he will notice your post and bail you out. I know he uses Helicon and seems to be equally at home with just about any make or model arranger. He may actually "walk on water" while playing at Ernest's... but I have it on good authority, he's no Angel... LOL!

Best of luck with finding solutions to your problem(s).

----Dave

I did use the T.C. Helicon Harmony M with the S970. However, I'm afraid I don't recall how I set it up. It wasn't difficult though. They both must be on the same midi channel of course. You will find that in the TRANSMIT section on the midi menu on the Yamaha. Set it to transmit on channel one, then be sure other channels are not transmitting date and save it as a User setup.
It is also best to disable Program Change on the T.C., or the keyboard can send it some strange messages. I kept wondering why my Reverb was being reset, and that was the culprit.

No, haven't called TC Helicon as everything works fine if I have it connected to my T5.

This only happens when I use it with my PSR...which makes no sense to me...

I did a factory reset on the TC just to rule things out and nothing changed. Still sounds like crap with the psr...

Hey Don -

Here's 2 pics of what I'm looking at...

I'm "sometimes" seeing the "midi" icon flash when I play chords on the psr - other times not...Seems very random to me...

Hey Bill, is it possible there's a split point that got changed, limiting the range sent to the TC?

Try opening the Keyboard and Style menu. Be sure the style parts are transmitting, but nothing else. Then set the T.C. to whatever channel the styles are on. I used Style part one and two I think. Check those boxes and none of the others.
Then save everything to USER memory.

When I select "keyboard and style" nothing seems to happen. There's no deeper menu page that opens up.

Q: If I do a factory reset for only the "System set up" and the "midi setup" would I also lose the hundreds of registrations I have set up on the kb?

Save all setups etc, to a USB drive first then you can reload them easily. have you called TC helicon to see what they say?

BINGO!

After backing up my regs / settings (Thanks Donny P!) I did a system & midi reset to factory defaults on the psr. Turned unit off/on and everything seems to be working fine again.

BLOOD PRESSURE DROPPING!!!

Thanks everybody, I appreciate your help...

Bill, Keyboard & Style is what you need to select, at least with the Harmony M. I'm not sure about which channel you need to select on the vocal processor, though. I think I found the information of setting up the vocal processor midi settings on page 20 of the manual for the Harmony M. It was pretty easy once I figured it out.

Here's the instructions for the Harmony-M, which I think may apply to your vocal processor as well.

Setup Mode
The MIDI operations of Harmony-M will work for most
simple setups, but there may be times when more
detailed control is necessary. For this, it's possible to
change the default settings for several necessary options
in the MIDI Setup mode. Harmony-M's buttons have
alternate functions in this mode and are listed below.
To enter MIDI Setup Mode, hold the A/B and On
footswitches. The 3 LEDS in the indicator bar will flash
indicating MIDI Setup mode. It is not possible to enter
MIDI Setup mode using an external footswitch.
To exit MIDI Setup mode, press the On footswitch only.
In MIDI Setup mode, the following settings are selected
by the buttons on the face of Harmony-M:
o Main Receive Channel (Selected by the Manual
button) - Receive Channel is ready to be set by
default as you entered MIDI Setup mode (Manual
button lit).To change the receive channel:
20
1. Play a note on your keyboard.
or
2. Manually adjust the channel shown in the Preset
display window with the Voice 1 and Voice 2
buttons.
The LED in the Preset button indicates channel
ten and the 10s position. If the Preset button is lit
and the number 6 is shown in the window for
example, the receive channel is set to 16.The
default channel is 1.
o Continuous Controller (CC's) Receive Channel
(Selected by the Double button) - By default, the
CC receive channel changes along with the Main
receive channel. If you need to change the CC
channel separately to avoid unwanted parameter
changes from your arranger keyboard or a
sequencer, press the Double button and then
move a slider on your keyboard that's transmitting
on the desired CC channel. This can also be
manually adjusted with the Voice 1 and Voice 2.

Hope this helps,

Gary cool
