The Genos can be purchased for $4000 or less...One open box went on E-bay a short time ago for $3700!...That's what I'm willing to pay or less...Harold
Wow, it looks like the 2.0 update will make the $6,000 Genos to match the features of the $2,000 SX900...
Fran, My comment has nothing to do with Genos, but I have to give you credit for your tenacity when it comes to Roland products and especially the G70. You should be on their sales maybe even R&D team. I know there is not probably not another member of this forum who has been so dedicated and loyal to one brand. Well maybe Gary with Yamaha.
Genos is a great keyboard, but it is not worth $6000. It is probably not even worth $4000 (at least to me). The bang for buck is at the MOTL in all brands-the SX900, PA1000 and E-A7. Don't believe me? Here's a video that compares the TOTL Tyros 5 to the PSR-970 sending the Tyros through the 970's speakers. Result-sure the Tyros sounds a little better but $4000 better? No.
You see this with acoustic guitars as well. It's called the law of diminishing returns. With acoustic guitars the sweet spot is about the same as it is for arrangers-$1500. Just my opinion and of course anyone is free to buy what they want.
First things first, the controversy will go on between what arranger is better, what is better bang for , etc etc. for as long as there’s a SZ, people and arranger keyboards.
My 2 cents and only my opinion for whatever it’s worth. I don’t know anyone who paid even close to the $6000 price tag, it’s more like in the $4000 price range. That’s not to say someone has not paid close to the $6000 price tag. I will say this too that audiences may not necessarily know the difference between a MOTL and a Genos. For me as a musician there is nothing like sitting behind the keys of a Genos and hearing the sound coming from that arranger. The bonus for me is I can play piano solo on it if needed (76 keys) no it’s not like playing a real piano but it can and does do the job.
One more thought when I bought the Genos 2 years ago my wife took a look at it and said why this one it looks like all the other arrangers you’ve owned I can’t understand why you have to keep buying these keyboards............then after I turned it on and played it she said WHOA, this is the best sounding one yet.
Yup there’s a butt for every seat and there’s nothing wrong with a MOTL arranger, I know there’s some SZ members who have earned a great living playing a MOTL arranger. The way I figure it life is short I don’t drink, gamble, smoke or womanize gotta have a vice of some kind for me it’s Genos and it’s worth every penny I paid for it.

Yes, but is it more than you need? I have the Premier model Chevy Malibu ... Fully loaded ... A Tesla would cost 4 times as much, but is it going to serve me any better???

DNJ...Back to the beginning....I'm VERY HAPPY for You getting the Genos...We are a lot a like...I have to have a Keyboard that will inspire Me to play Music. It must Have 76 keys( for full keyboard Piano playing) with a reasonable weight...From all the peoples reviews being VERY POSITIVE with the Genos and what I hear Online I think I would Love one...No way was I trying to offend You in any way...Best wishes in all You do....Sincerely, Harold

I can understand the need - desire? - for 76 keys, but other than that shouldn't the inspiration for playing come from within ? ... When I was first taking management courses we were told that money is the lowest motivational factor for a person's performance and that pay increases only motivated for a very short period of time ... It took me a while to understand that ... I feel the same way about keyboards ... yes, they may motivate you initially, but how long does that last ?!?
Genos is very inspirational the Kino strings... Ensembles... Nashville styles...Freeplay Styles..etc, Guitars... Pianos .. WOW!.. It just makes you want to play.. talk about inspirerng ..

Remember, if register your G at Yamaha, you'll get a code for a free addon pack in Y store. If like the country stuff, the Country-pack is great too. But so are several others....
Nice to see you're having fun. Tomorrow my calendar say it's 15 Nov 👌 🎹🎵🎵🎵🎵🎵

Hi, that was worth watching. I’ve always bought the Totl arrangers, but that video is food for thought. Sound wise, there didn’t appear to be that much difference which I found totally surprising. Sometimes I think maybe we pay extra features we may not even use. Definitely was in the case of my Pa4x. Be interesting to see more demos along the same lines, ie Pa4x vs Pa1000 sounds. Or the Genos vs SX900 sounds.
I know in my case I would have been paying nearly 2 1/2 times the price for a Genos vs sx900, plus the added cost of external speakers. I probably wouldn’t have been content with my 30 year old Yamaha moniter speakers even though they’re still working perfectly.
Some info posted at PSR Tutorial Forum worth attention, but I suppose it will be among the 'warnings' within the install instructions as well. 📝☑

Hi Jonny, definitely worth checking out. Some users used to get themselves in trouble with major Korg upgrades, if they didn’t back up and save stuff correctly. You don’t want to lose data or settings you’ve created.

Yes, it's a addonpack just the same kind that's in the store. You can use USB stick or YEM 2.6 Descriptions of 'how to do' is in the manuals and info at downloadpage. 👍
Note, if you have not updated to v2 first, the special pack won't install. If use YEM, you most use v 2.6

Hi Jonny, Is there much difference between the new Yem and the prior version? Or is it explained in the utube clip? Can’t watch at the moment it’s 4am . Haha
Hi Jonny, Is there much difference between the new Yem and the prior version?
Thanks Rikki.
I did not notice any special differences so far, other that it recognise the amount of memory added, and what's used of it. I can see by other posts elsewhere that if not update YEM, the added space will not show up. But as long as Yamaha say it must be updated to 2.6 to work with G-2.0, it's probably more changes than what's visible. 😎

I updated the YEM to 2.6 - works just as the earlier version did. The change history (for 2.6) says the fixes were: ------------- [V2.5.3 to V2.6.0] Now supports the Genos V2.00. Incremental installation of Expansion Packs using a USB flash drive called as "Quick Installation" is now available on compatible instruments. Solved some other minor problems -------------
I was able to install all the packs yesterday that are compatible w/the SX900. So far, so good! Love the board!

Hi Mitch - I installed all the Audio Styles....(there were 8 sets) and a folder with a bunch of other styles - put them all into the pack which when Imported now makes them all available when I press the EXP button.

Mitch - I just followed Telmo's instructions on PSR Tutorial.... the audio styles (5 or more styles per pack) appear in audio packs, which I don't believe I can export as a non-pack (but I am not sure - have not tried to import them via a straight USB copy). Thought I read somewhere that you can't export or save audio files. The import worked perfect using the 8 audio packs and the YEM for me.
I found the folders where the Audio packs were saved. Each folder only contains 3 files - a list of the styles on the pack, a .ppf file (comprised of the styles - which is what you need to select to get the pack into the group of data you are going to import) and a read.me file which says to import them using the YEM. Hope this helps. They play great on the SX!

Hi I installed the T5 audio styles using Yem onto USB stick and installed them into sx. After I installed , I was then able to copy them individually into my style library which I keep on a USB stick. As far as I am aware they don’t have have to reside in the sx.

Donny, If you like you can PM me I'll give you my phone number and will try to walk you through it. Eric
Eric thanx so much I would have almost called you but after 5 hrs was able to obtain some great instruction on file extensions from so many genos players that was the culprit and a clean USB..... finally after changing files YEM .cqi to .cpi all worked and man I am blown away with these sounds and styles besides all the other new goodies in v2.0.... again Eric thank you my friend.
Rikki, the style collection is in fact good, a bit from sevral genres from the 50'es up til now. Even it it's made a kind of allround, they does fit more to dedicated songs than others. But that's how it is in the preset collection as well. They made a special playlist with songs using this pack. 50 styles and settings, same amount as the new styles. Also good mix regarding new sounds and how they composed it together in OTS.
For those who have any interest, here's the songtiles listed in playlist for the stylepack as txt file.

Donny, You are more than welcome. I know how frustrating it can be. Been there myself. Had some forum members in the past help my over the phone, like Gary and others. Just paying it forward. Glad you got it sorted out. Have fun playing .... All the best Eric
