I am still discovering the coolness of the SX900 and decided to give a try to my first SX900 demo. Here is "Besame Mucho" using the "Quick Record" utility. My first excursion (thanks to SZ posts regarding Registration use) into changing styles mid-song with the Registration buttons. Next step will be to experiment with the foot pedal for Registration changes. Hope you enjoy my interpretation of this wonderful melody.

That was was very nice, indeed. I very much liked the laid back style with nice piano fills. It is a refreshing change from the old strict rhythm.

Randy, my kind of music.. You're no slouch on keyboard. smile

I can hear the passing tones, great voicings, and half diminished chords.

Great arrangement, and I finally heard an SX900 demo I could appreciate grin .

Thanks Guys! The SX900 is a joy to play. Lots more to learn as I go forward, but so far, I love it!

Fran - thanks soooooo much for the kind words! My Dad was an amazing pianist and I hope he approves of what his sax playing son has done with the talent he gave to me. Glad you liked the demo and my interpretation! I really do enjoy playing this song and this new board!

Randy!!! I thought you were a sax player ! ...
Nice job ...
I envy those of you who can - at the very least- entertain at more than one instrument ...
The sax player from our band in NY also plays piano and drums, and has filled in on stand up bass ...

That was really good. It sounds like the SX-900 really followed your right and left hand accompaniment very accurately. Excellent and very musical rendition. I love that tune.

Your laid back version was perfect. I REALLY enjoyed it.

Thanks again for listening and for the kind words! Having played this song 500 times on the sax, it is wonderful to be able to vary the approach a little and apply those wonderful Yammie styles to it. Arrangers are such fun - thanks again to all!

Thanks Mitch! It is indeed a great way to spend time! Love this board!

Rikki - My whole desire with my arranger has pretty much been focused on trying to play a cocktail style. I really appreciate your sentiment and will see if I can rustle up a couple more... smile

PS - I am trying to force my left hand to cover the comping - I usually do a bit more, but with the camera rolling, my nerves kept me in the safety zone. smile HA HA.

Hi Randy ,
I think you’ve nailed it.
Singers have got it over us, they use the keyboards for backing.
Their voice is the focus of the song.
Same goes for someone like yourself, who uses keyboard for backing your sax.

When you listen to some arranger songs all you hear is the backing, the lead instrument playing the melody gets lost in the blur of sound.

For me , it should be about the melody, the backing in the background to compliment rather than dominate.

Look forward to hearing more.

Wow - I am most grateful to all of you for listening and for posting such nice comments! The whole thing started out as an experiment with the recorder and just went from there.

Deane - I used 4 Registration buttons:

1 - Etherial Movie (1st variation)
2 - Dreamy Ballad (1st variation)
3 - Dreamy Ballad (2nd variation with added Multipad "Strings Ballad #1)
4 - Etherial Movie (1st ending variation)

I turned off the piano comping in the Dreamy Ballad style and cut the style volume back a bit. Probably could have raised the volume on the left hand a little more.

Again, I am most grateful for the "listens" and for your encouragement. I love playing the arrangers and am having a ball "taming" this new ride!

See it OK colors & all??
Thanks,

Very nice performance. You really have a way of decorating the melody.

I’m just curious if you’ve tried the chord loop her yet? I it would be a great tool for horn as player/ keyboardist like yourself. You could play a chorus on the keyboard and go to sax while the keyboard is looping. Could you give that a try, and let us not know how that goes?

Hi Lee - I have pretty bad vision these days, but in my normal upright position, I have absolutely no problem viewing the screen. For this video, I was backed away to keep my noggin' from blocking the camera. Normally I am more upright. In both cases, no problem viewing the screen or seeing the colors and content. Thanks for listening!

MontunoMan - I have only played briefly with the chord looper and I agree it could make it very interesting by allowing a horn player or guitar player to stand up and take a solo. I have played a few gigs where I took the keyboard and my sax and once I get comfortable with the looper, I can definitely see a utility for playing a tune on keyboard and playing a chorus or two on the sax. I will bone up on it and try to post something in the future. Thanks for the listen and the kind words!

Ditto on all of the above, looks and sounds like you are making great music with your new SX900!
Glad to see you working with the reg system, I am sneaking in some time to do the same for a few Xmas songs on my 970. .. .
Very smooth my friend!

Thanks Jill! As we both know, taming the arrangers is fun and educational. Have fun w/the S970 (a wonderful board) and I look forward to hearing your Xmas tunes!
