I think the SX900 is actually more of a "young adult" Genos. Trimmer, leaner, lots of the potential of it's much larger, family member. Not a step down, but rather, a step sideways for those of us who have no room, or need for the extra keys, and cherish the advantage of on board speakers to use in a professional setting that doesn't call for lots of amplification. "Baby" just isn't the right word for such an advanced instrument. Yes, the Genos has more bells and whistles, and some people need all that. I prefer to buy only the bells I'll actually use. It's not the best, if it's not the best for me, and right now - the SX is performing beautifully.

What the hell, I'll tell you. I came across a "used" Genos at a price I couldn't refuse. Have to give it a try. So far so good. Sure is BIG though.

After playing my SX with the keys of a better controller (SV-1), I'm convinced that the "guts" of this thing is top quality. I've heard that the build quality and keybed on the Genos is highly upgraded, like the Tyros line, so that's where lots of that extra cost must be going. Glad to hear you snagged a deal, Don. Always love me some "Let's make a deal".

Fantastic, congratulations. The keys not too heavy? or is it for home studio use?

No the keys are not nearly as heavy as the PA4X; they are a lot like the EA7 keys, but little more solid, with aftertouch of course.

Wow, that’s great. Look forward to hearing some recordings? We hope.

Does it have a lot of the country styles? I rescued quite a number from earlier model T’s ( though you probably have them anyway) they sound quite good on sx . So if of any use , let me know.

Don I tried to keep it a secret but you revealed much too soon
as you had it a while now anyway wink . To big?,..
should NOT be a problem because your set up and rarely move from Ernest's stage
& if so the EA7 backup should fit the bill nicely as a second.
many are misled by the "baby Genos" comment size.
Speakers are not the difference it's all about what is inside Genos vs sx900 that creates the sounds and styles.
That said anyone that doesn't trust my opinion so be it I really don't give a crap,
I have learned a lot of who is a friend last few weeks and for that alone
I refuse to share many things publicly anymore here on SZ vs privately,
...it's sad it had to come to that.
Don as a few others, myself included sent back the
SX900 for a reason (it is not a baby or sideways Genos)
and bought a real Genos is all I will say,
I will not comment more on that.
I had a whole Genos review started on my progress but stopped and deleted it
I don't need the ridicule I would rather enjoy playing this wonderful instrument.
That said Don knows full well how I feel about his Genos choice
and I wish him only good luck on stage.
I Know he is gonna kick some major country ass
this Holiday season for sure. cool2

Have fun.

Ditto.

I don’t think anybody is suggesting the sx900 is a Genos with 61 keys.
There’s a hell of a lot of similarities, and most of us who kept them for more than 3 hours are quite happy with them.
Note I said most , not everyone.

Rikki "quite happy" is one thing no one is arguing a persons choice and enjoyment here..
but to compare a unit that is superior price and technology wise
inside and out is another thing.
yet many because of the price difference tend to have to substantiate their choice. What ever people chose the genos or lessor sx900 is fine with me. Just understand there is a difference inside.

Take care

Rikki do you really think the inside sampling quality layers of the sounds is the same between the two units?
There is a reason for the price difference.

I have found when you find a keyboard that to you is the best.. you usually keep it for ten years.. smile

With this thought... let us see who has the same keyboard longer then the payment schedule. smile

It happened twice for me with arrangers.. 10 years G1000... 13 years and counting G70... And not to forget... 56 years and counting, my accordion grin

Fran, I agree - when you find the one that fits, you tend to keep it for a decade or more - at least that has been my experience over the past 30 years. I sure got a lot of mileage out of my PSR-3000, then the S-950, which I still own. smile

All the best,

I've had ny 740 for 15 years. My 3000 belonged to Gary Diamond for over 10 years and no I've had it for two. The way things are going I expect I'll still be playing it 8 years from now if I'm still alive.

Great point Lee, my Technics dealer was an excellent at demonstrating piano/ keyboard , after 5 keyboards and 2 pianos, and I still wondered why they didn’t sound the same at home as they did in the shop.
Shucks , I forgot to ask hubby if I could bring him home too. Haha

The last few weeks I am surprised that many people are positive about the Yamaha Genos. When I look at the messages about the Genos from 2 years ago here on Synthzone, I see that people were generally very negative in general. I am happy and surprised that now there is a sort of "revival" and appreciation for this instrument.

Impuls it takes time to reduce the competition and make sure it fill your needs. The new v2.0 was a big plus also. I was certainly skeptical at first but glad I waited made sure the sx900 wasn't a
"baby Genos",..and tried all that was out there to be sure.
I am having a blast setting it up...
just finished my 3rd Reg song bank with 30 songs many using the replacement NEW Genos version of the same styles/sounds etc,.. too. Many more banks to go & beyond.

I didn't say I love it. Jury is still out. I do like the controls, feel, styles and sounds. But the only thing I didn't have on PA4X was the lighter key feel.
This thing is LOOOONG.
I am in the process of creating all new Registrations, using my old ones as a model. Almost every style can be changed or updated to sound better than on previous Yamahas, except maybe the SX900. It's styles were also updated a lot.
The Audio styles are still my favorites. Wish there were more.
So far I've only heard it through headphones and the Logitech system in my office/studio.
Maybe today I'll set up the real P.A. system. I hope to use the Genos on the job by next weekend. That will be the real test.

I find it more easy to make for each song a seperate Registration , much easyer to search and overlook , and its the way for using and store it in the Playlist .
Have now made approx 800 registrations in the past 2 years on the genos

I smirk

Hi Don,
I think I understood you correctly , ( except in my case vice versa) I found when I was putting my style library together, most of the previous styles going back to T3, sounded really good on sx, except for the Genos, thought it might have been due to missing voices or effects , whatever.
interesting that sx styles don’t sound that great on Genos.
Fortunately they have a large number of styles in common.
