OK, in the interest of public flagellation, I offer up a kinder, gentler version of this seminal classic for your careful dissection. This time out, I used a Grand piano in the RH, Acoustic LH manual bass, and a very generic 4/4 ballad drum style. I tweaked the harmonies to sit (set?) better in the mix (they are triggered from my RH chords), raised the drums and bass for all you who like the bigger boomy sound, and voila! Here it is ... enjoy! (fingers crossed)

I'll start - the lead vocal is WAY too loud. Geeze ..... What was I thinking?!?!?!? In my headphones, it was kinda nice, but then ... who doesn't love the sound of their own voice, am I right? lol

I like that, Dave ... Yes, the background could have been more up front - or the vocal lower, but I think no matter how you perform this classic, your audience will love it ...
I would also like to hear you sing this with just acoustic guitar - like, really laid back ...

As you pointed out yourself Dave the balance ain't quite perfect but with this accompaniment listening is a pleasure on the ears all the same.
Me too wondering where the piano sound originates from, is the SX-900 ?
Thanks for sharing,

regards
John

You’re all very kind, thank you. So, the piano is the SX. The first one that comes up.

Yikes! These chords are the pretty jazz chords ... you’re gonna make me work for it, huh? I’ll see if I’m up for it. 😎

Funny, I was was working on this tune this morning and thought maybe should I try it out on my guitar. Then thought about those chords! Maybe next year smile

Very nice rendition UD. Hope to hear more!

Dave ... The chords are beautiful, but no need to use same ones on guitar ...
Besides, I KNOW you are up to the task ...

Thanks Gary ... even thought the harmonizer is finicky with on/off accuracy, the actual tone of the voices, and effects is pretty good.

Nice ! If your going to be super picky yes the vocal could be blended in better but really nice job on all counts. You have a. very "youthful" sounding voice or is that built into the Arranger too ? If so I want one.
LOL!

Hi Dave,
that sounded brilliant too.
Personally I prefer listening to your voice without the harmony .
But that’s just me.

You have a lovely voice, why detract from it.

If you were doing a song that needs harmony, like a Beach Boys or whatever, that’s one thing, but this one really doesn’t.

Sounded great Obi-Wan smile

Do you always use right hand chords to trigger vocal harmony?
Because?

Thanks Larry. I use RH triggers 90% of the time because
1) I'm a better bass player than I am LH chord player
2) I can play tastier chords with my RH, and include more passing tones to add to the complexity of the harmonies.

Thanks Mitch. I've been blessed with a long career that keeps me happy, challenged, and local enough to be in my own bed each night. I'm thankful for each day I get to climb up on stage (or nestle into a corner) and share a bit of my soul with the audience. For me, there's no option. If I had a "real job" there wouldn't be enough hours in the day to play music, and that just would not do. There was a short (10 year) segment that I chose to teach HS music and drama (age 50-60), but that was all music-all day, and I still performed quite a bit, both with the kids, and on my own.
I turn 65 in March, and I hope nothing changes! (fingers crossed) I figure, I might have enough energy to keep this pace up for 10 more years, then if the business will still have me, I'll scale back (just a little) until I can't be effective anymore.
It'd kill me to give up the connection I have with my clients, and fans, and just sit at the computer all day, reliving my glory days, trying to fill the hours.
I once asked an elderly friend of mine when he might retire, and he replied ... "every time one of my friends retires, I become a pall bearer".
He passed at 94, and played almost all the way through.
That's the goal. Play to the end. (wish me luck!)

Quick sidenote: There's a line at the end of a Billy Crystal movie (Mister Saturday Night) that sums up my connection to show business.
Billy played an entertainer named Buddy, and when Buddy's wife was asked how she put up will all the craziness of the biz, she relied:
"Buddy just needed that extra hug, he could only get from strangers ...."

That's me, I think. I like the strangers .... for a few hours a night. Then, I get to go home. smile
