Hi there, just bought a standard SD card reader, hoping to get my SD card managed for the kn7000... obviously this doesn´t work with the "Explorer" because of a proprietary file system. Is there a software available, which manages this issue ? As far as I read the "manual", the Song Manager only transfers files from a PC dirctly via USB to the KN7000, but not to a card reader. Am I wrong ?
Thx for any help,
Jörg

For now, if I were you, I would just forget about the SD Card. It is an over-hyped hardware add-on by Technics, that obviously was not well thought out. Why would Technics come out with a new device like the SD Card and NOT include any software for transfering the many midi files and such utilizing a computer.

For me the whole thing is a complicated mess. I tried coping files from a disk to the SD Card with a computer or with the 7000. Sometimes I'm lucky, and it will "show" on the 7000. More often then not, it will show the disk at say 50% full, yet post the message that the SD Card is Empty. For some reason it could not read the midi file that was copied.

Now if you are lucky enough to copy from a Disk to the SD Card you then have to venture into trying to place that file where you want it for fast easy access, certainly not an easy task. Favorites? Alphabetically? By Number?
By Folder? Wow it's mind boggling !!!

As you can tell, I am frustrated by this whole SD Card deal. I have asked many experts in this forum about how to copy files to the SD Card, and have come to the conclusion, that either you "can't" or its difficult. Certainly Not Fun

For now, I'm sticking with FLOPPYS

Hi,
I managed to sort all the KN .cst's ( styles)from the KN7000 website. I loaded them from floppy to the KN and saved them to my SD card in the style groups I wanted. I also have everthing backed up in my computer so that if something goes wrong , it's simple to load it back onto my card again.

I've got instructions on how I did it plus a spread sheet naming all the 600 or so individual .cst's from the KN website.

I also bought a cheap card reader that I use for backing up the sd card. All i do is take the SD card out of the KN , place it into the sd card reader attached to my laptop
press copy from sd card (e: drive on my computer) , copy to my KN folder in c: drive.

It takes 3 to 4 minutes to copy the whole 32 meg sd ( which is about 50% full of styles)

I've given directions on what I did , plus the spreadsheet with all the styles named at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/kn7000/files/

The card really is great once you work it out. I haven't had a chance to try midifiles yet as it's taken me a few weeks to work out my system for the style sorting.

best wishes
Rikki

rikkisbears,
Thanks for sharing your method of saving "styles". It does prove a point that it took you a "few weeks" to work out a system for copying these files. It had to be a lot of work

Good luck with midis. Trying to get the kn7000 to read midi files from a reader/writer and computer is as far as I know impossible .

Thanks Aagin for the instructions

Hi folks, maybe some of you got me wrong. I meant: Is there a way to read/write midi files directly from the PC to an SD card, which then can be read from the KN7000 ? As I understood, there is a reader plus software from panasonic, who does it, but is much more expensive than standard usb readers. So, probably the software, that comes with this panasonic device can manage othere devices as well ? Or someone of the "techies" managed to analyse the kn7000 file system used for reading/writing on SD cards and wrote a piece of software ?

I believe Thomas (thkmcs) is working on some kind of software package. I seem to recall that another member, whose name escapes me at present, intended to write a program to help with the PC / SD problem.

Hi Larry,
it did take me a few weeks to do the original sorting of styles and naming them, but with the list, it probably would only take a few days. If I were to start from scratch( armed with the list), I'd be inclined to maybe download the .cst's in smaller batches and sort them as I went.

Having had a closer look, I've come to the same conclusion that it doesn't appear that midifiles can be loaded to the sd card and read by the KN. Of course you can load anything from a computer to an sd card ( via a card reader), but that doesn't mean the KN7000 will recognize it.
I suppose the midifiles would have to be loaded into the KN and saved as songs instead.
I actually have a few of the Technote Play Along series of disks, which comprise of styles as well as sequencer parts (songs). I downloaded them to my SD card. It was interesting to note that loading them via floppy took quite some time, whereas loading them from the SD card only took a few seconds.

Glad to hear the instructions and list are helping some members. Hope you were able to make sense of them.
best wishes

We will wait for someone who will develop software to help with transfering midi files from a PC to the SD and have the 7000 play them...mmmm sounds like a floppy does that now .

Hi
I think I may have found a way to load midi's to your SD Card
Try the following Press
SD Load Button next
SD Tools Button ( top left)next
SD Tools Button (bottom right) next
Copy from disk.

Don't know how flexible this system is , please let me know if it works.

best wishes

Hi,
forgot to mention midifiles seem to work via "Sound Play" in the SD menu.

It's 7 in the morning here, so maybe I'm still dreaming (heehee)

Hi,
have you tried saving midifiles from floppy to SD card via the KN7. It doesn't really take all that long.

Hi folks, YES, I know how to copy files from floppy to SD... but my intention is to manage the MIDIs directly from my PC, where I adjsut them to my personal needs (w Cakewalk) - and then like to coyp them directly into folders on the SD card... seems, as if we all have to wait for some "freaks" to develop a simple software tool, which does exactly that :-)
