I did a gig Thursday night. Packed up and put my USB drive in a briefcase with its two backups. Tried it yesterday and its trashed. The other two work fine. And I do backup on multiple drives and on the computer.
The new USBs I'm going to use are very samll and will fit into the BK9 slot with the access door closed. Is it safe to transport the keyboard with the USB plugged in ??
I remember the days of disks and knew never to leave one in a keyboard when moving but a USB is very different.

Just a bid USB drive, Bill. I left my USB drive in all my keyboards that had USB drive slots, but used a very small drive that did not protrude beyond the keyboard frame.

USB drives can and do go bad - that's why I always carried 2 backup drives with me all the time.

Good luck,

Bill, on my Pa900 I use one very similar - if not the same - as the one in Donny's post ... It doesn't protrude above the KB ...
The back ups are in another case with my mic and cables ...

Good to know. The BK9 has a dedicated slot with a cover so theres nothing sticking out. I may do that as once and only once I went to a rehearsal and forgot the USB. Just played piano and organ so all was good but I may leave one in the BK9 "just in case"

Have always used a low profile usb stick just like Donny's picture and left it plugged into my PSR3000 and Tyros 3 permanently, Only removed to do backup or load new stuff. No problems at all.

USB drives can fail without warning and for no obvious reason, that's just the way it is.

Some failures can be prevented by not hot swapping. I lost a lot of work because of this, and not backing up my data on a regular basis. I always knew not to yank the drive when it was engaged, but my failure was hastened,at least, by pulling it when the keyboard was still on. According to a couple of large sound companies, one should always turn the machine off before hand.

I know about taking it out while its engaged with data transfer from the keyboard but having to turn the keyboard off ? How would I transfer a Style from one disk to another ?

I guess, have everything in place before you turn on the keyboard.

No what I'm talking about is using a USB with a lot of older Styles on it and wanting to transfer one of those Styles to my "Gig USB drive" Keyboard has to be on.
