On a B3, the two manuals are actually much closer together than in the average two-stack keyboard config. Even when the top keyboard is on the flat surface of the bottom keyboard, the space from the top of the keys on the bottom keyboard to the top of the keyboard coupled with the space from the bottom of the top keyboard to the top of the keys is considerably more than on a two-manual organ. Also, on organ my right hand is divided between the upper and lower manual and usually only plays in 'spurts'. I'd hate to play full time with my left hand in the 'elevated' position as in typical 'arranger' playing. Lastly, my right hand is stronger than my left AND more dexterous. If you're eating Cheetos while watching a porn movie, when it's over, note which hand is orange-colored. ...unless, of course, you're a 'lefty' smile.

clap Chas exactly!! That is why I always disliked a two kb stack set up...not for me at all. Hammond got it right for sure as you say if you have to play 2 keybeds..

Interesting topic that I have pondered, without great results, for years. Like many,I come from the B3 era,and also wanted to transition to keyboards. My first rig was a hollowed out Gulbranson spinet with 2 Peavey KB3 cabs. I was 23 in "64,so the weight was relatively light. In the years since,I tried 2 platform stands, but the reach killed me,even though the hight differential was fine. The second tier stands,as we know, don't cut it,but close on some.

Today,I mostly have forgotten the idea, except with my Korg MicroKey Air. It is so thin and narrow, one can place it in front,at the same level. There is always a but--,and that is fooling with midi. I can midi it into the main keyboard,or,bring my SD40.

No real solutions, just a bunch of past memories.

On my Hammond, the top keys are 2 and 7/16" above the lower manual, and the top overlaps the lower about an inch.. I can play both manuals together with the same hand smile

... a guy asks his doctor for something to keep his erection longer because he has a big date with TWINS later that evening. He takes the prescription and heads home. Next day he goes back to the doctor and shows him a mangled, throbbing, red, sore penis ... asks for Ben Gay. The Doctor says "you can't put Ben Gay on THAT!" ... Guy responds - the Ben Gay is for my arm - the girls never showed up!
