Susan, along with her sister and brother-in-law, went on a trip to visit relatives in Nashville. On the way home, she developed severe pain in her chest and left arm.
They stopped at ER at the University of Arkansas Medical Science hospital in Little Rock Saturday night and they were able to get the pain to subside somewhat with nitro. They ran tests that did not indicate a heart attack, and probably ruled out a blood clot, at least in her lungs. Ten years ago she had a blood clot in her left arm as a result of chemotherapy treatment, but has had no problem since.
Anyway, they did EKG, blood tests, CT scan, x-rays, a D-Dimer test, and other tests, and they told her she could go home about midnight, after around seven hours there. She had to wait on a bed in a hallway for an hour or so before they could find her a room.
Yesterday, the pain was much better, but still there. Seems to be better when she lies down. She did recently have a fall and it possibly has caused some issues, such as a pinched nerve or something, but we don't know.
She also has a history of Esophageal Spasms, which can mimic a heart attack, but these symptoms are much different.
She is going to her cardiologist today at 2:45 to see what he recommends. She's just a baby, only 60. smile
I would ask that you keep her in your thoughts, and prayers, if you are so inclined. I can't do without her.

Don, absolutely, we will be praying for her, and for the doctors evaluating and treating her ...
Not to take any attention away from her situation but I have suffered with those esophageal spasms for years, and yes, they absolutely mimic a heart attack ... the one med I take for it now is Dexilant 60mg each day ...
You, Susan and your family are in our prayers

Don, sorry to hear about Susans problems. It seems there's always something at our age. It also seems harder to get over these things. Here's wishing you both the best.

She is scheduled for stress test in the morning. Dr. doesn't think it's her heart but wants to rule that out.
Thanks for the support!

Hi Don,
hopefully they can at least rule that out.

Going back a few years, my doctor did an ecg on me, because I’d been having pain in my left arm. Advice was, drive home carefully you might be on the verge of having a heart attack. We’ll also do a blood test which should be able to rule it out. She didn’t bother to ring me back that Friday afternoon to say it wasn’t.
Also didn’t find out her ecg machine was faulty till after I saw a specialist and did a stress test.
I changed doctors.

My pain eventually went away, I think I had done something to my arm, carrying shopping bags that were too heavy. On the odd occasion it still happens , when I forget I’m not superwoman.

Just praying it might be something simple like mine was. I tripped a few years back and hurt my right hip and knee. Every now and again the pain comes back, and goes again.

Just think positive.

Hoping your wife finds it's a simple solution. Stressors these days can cause a lot of aches and pains to come out. All this major news is enough to make anyone sick. God speed to your wife and your family Don.

Give Susan my best, Don. She's a tough, Cajun lady that can pretty much get through anything - Hell, she's married to you, so she can handle it.

Good luck,

Thanks everyone. Waiting for confirmation from the Dr. concerning the stress test this morning. They didn't keep her, so we're hoping they didn't discover any blockage.
Meanwhile, she's at work because it is corporate tax time and that's part of her job. She deserves a gold medal of some kind, but a huge bonus would be better. smile

Don, will they be doing a catheterization? Last year, when my BP went through the roof I underwent the full battery of tests, which showed a blockage and an ejection fraction of 38, which is low ... through the catheterization they found that the blockage was 50% - which they would do nothing about unless it was 75% - and the EF was 50, which is on the low side of normal ...
Meds, exercise and proper diet would help tremendously - no stent needed ...

PS: when I had a catheterization in the 80's it was performed through the groin, and I had to lie perfectly still for hours on my back with sand bags along the side of my leg so it wouldn't move ... this time it was through a 'pin-hole' in my wrist, they put a pressure band on for about two hours, then released it a little at a time until they were sure it sealed up ...

Tony, Same for me...through a small puncture in my wrist...they can do that 95% of the time now. I had R Coronary artery at 95% and 2 other areas at 70...they put in 2 stents...doing fine now. The reason I said all this is: My only symptoms were a very slight burning (not pain, not pressure) in my chest upon exercise and when walking my hands felt a little heavy. No pain at all, no neck, arm or anything issues...
Moral is if it don't feel right get your but into ER.

Don, I Hope at most Susan will need stent,

We will know tomorrow. When I had my first stent, they went through the groin and there wasn't much to it. As you may recall, my second one was anything but normal, getting an artery cut and rushing to open heart surgery.
I also had a heart cath during my latest episode two years ago, but they found very little blockage.
My EF was 25 after that Ven-Fib event. A year later, it had increased to 48! Entresto is a true miracle drug!
