With nothing to do at home during the crisis we all are feeling and after hearing John Smies, & Uncle Dave last nite on Facebook doing some great acoustic guitar versions of songs. I thought today I'd sit down at the Tyros 4 and try a bit of both Acoustic/&Style versions of a Classic Beatles song everyone in the world knows and my all time favorite. Here is my first scratch pad attempt just to get my feet wet recording it. Nothing special just a test run using
the T4 acoustic guitar multipads & the 70's Chart Ballad style.
Then I added a short vocal lead on top of both to get a feel of which direction
I would like to go with the rest of the arrangement,
maybe all acoustic with a cello/viola or french horn/soprano sax, etc,..
I don't know yet but wanted to share this very short first try.
If anything it gets my mind off what is happening in the world.

Stay safe headphone

Nice arrangement , l liked the way the full accompaniment comes in the 2nd verse. I love the Beatles and it’s always nice hearing new rendition of their songs. Keep on playing and singing, and thanks for sharing your work.

I liked it better than the original version. This version sounded and painted a picture that sounded so much more tender and personal. No offense to anyone but I saw two older folks sitting at home next to each other in their recliners reminiscing about their time together.
An encouraging message to all during these difficult times....

Donny, very interesting take indeed ... I also like how the strings and rhythm come in on the second verse ...
Personally, I think you could set the key a step higher for the vocal, but as a work in progress I think you're on the right track ...

Donny,

As I already mentioned to you in a mail I am always impressed if folks start using their arranger keyboard AS an arranger keyboard. This is no exception and you have done an impressive but short arrangement of this Beatles track. Young folks unfamiliar with the original, and yes there are and more and more believe it or not, will simply view it as a new and pleasant ballad. I like the arrangment very much and your voice is top notch....
Glad you joined those who are going live and/or recording more and more to share here. So much better than all these endless and repetitive reviews of whose keyboard is best and what gear to expect in a year from now....Keep it up my friend !!

regards
John

I also like that version better than the original. The T4 sounds great as do the vocals. I bet you could take the key up a notch though and hit it with no problem. Nice job and creative thinking on the redo fo that song.

Tony & Bill reason I used that key is that there will eventually be a 1/2 step "modulation" later in the song where the key would go up so you have to start a half key lower in the beginning.
As I said this is just a first take scratch pad run thru.

Nothing wrong with playing in B major, but I was wondering why you chose that key.... Makes sense now.

The true mark of a great song is one that you can perform in many styles, and the meaning still holds. The simplest definition of a ballad(e) is a song that tells a story, so while the original Beatles version was clearly a Rock & Roll dance beat, these slower versions ("Across the Universe", Glee", and Donny's) show that the story is the most important part, and not the beat. Classic, simple words that pack a punch. Nice job Donny.

Donny, very nice, you’re one of the vocalists here that seems to sing with such ease, your take of this Beatle’s tune reminds me of John Pizzeralli jazz album “Meet The Beatles “

Plus one! Donny, Shade of Pale writing it reminds him of PIzzarelli is quite a compliment.

Hi Stephen, on John Pizzarelli’s album “Meet the Beatles “ the way he totally re-arranged the familiar songs into something totally jazzy, is quite astonishing, the song “Things we said today” sounded like Van Morrison’s Moon dance, sorry, just realized I went off topic a bit much 🤓

Just listened to "Things ..." an absolute steal of the "Moondance" rhythm section ... I actually have a 'Moondance' style ... have to give it a try ...

Shade of Pale good to hear others talk about Pizzarelli. I was lucky enough to see him twice both in small auditoriums on one occasion he had his wife Jessica Molaskey perform with him.

Bachus the whole idea was to play Beatles songs with NON specific song styles there are so many already out there on these keyboards .....
this is where the creativeness comes in.
For example try "I Am The Walrus" using a Slow Waltz,
or maybe "The Fool on the Hill" with a Bossa Nova styles etc, ...
would love to hear something like that on your Jupiter etc.. cool2

Tony right now it is placed within my "in progress" folder
and will be attended to in time as there is no rush at the moment with months of free time coming up,..I also am still setting up the T4,...just today I created a custom swing style for NYNY took 2 hrs
to get it pretty much the way I needed to be able to sing with.
Once I get my "easy 30 styles" under my belt
so I can cover pretty much any song,
then I can continue with projects in my in progress folder
down the road.
Anyway back to a few movies now, lunch, and then back to music.

stay safe

Thats what i do allthe time..

However another topic here pulled my journey recently to song specific styles...
It was the organ player withthe lowrey...

Both ways are fun, and require a totally different approach..
With one you addapt your style to the song
Withthe other you adapt your plaing to the style
