I posted this on Korg forum, but 47 people did not respond.

It is not the pedal,as I tried it and others with no response. These same pedals work fine on other keyboards I own. I also tried calibrating,no change. It had been working fine and nothing changed,to my knowledge.

Save all your settings and do a factory reset to see if this solves the problem. (Make sure you test it before you load your settings back)

If it’s ok after reset but the problem returns after you reload your settings, then you will have to look deeper into your settings to see what has changed, otherwise you will probably have to contact Korg as it might be a hardware fault.

could it possibly been changed by a songbook entry or a midi file? Have you tried a differant setting on the right hand to see if that is the problem maybe in performances. Just a thought. Sometimes just a little thing like that will drive you crazy. With me it's a short drive.

Bernie does sustain work via midi control? Hook up a another keyboard as a controller and see if sustain is active using the sustain jack on the controller. If it works, I would then think it is a hardware issue(Korg internal), if sustain does not work, most likely a settings issue on the Korg.

Bernie , also did you try assigning hold to the other pedal input? If it works then it is the sustain input problem.

Is it possible that the function of the sustain pedal was redirected to Upper 2, or another "live" keyboard part? Not too familiar with the newer Korgs, but Roland's have tons of options about which voices are affected by the pedal. My $.02.

This might too trite, but did you stay on the same style? Maybe that style sustain is unchecked.

You also might try assigning sustain to one of the EC5 switches, if you have an EC5.
As DNJ said, the global lock might be off and a file is changing it.

There is also a system check you can do. I'll try to find the steps, but I think you power on while holding down Style Mode and Media buttons. It lets you check pedals, joystick, etc and tells you if they are working.

Thank you one and all. I now have many avenues to explore. Sure funny the Korg forum didn't have one suggestion.

Hi Bernie,
Before you do anything.
Do a “save all”, with everything checked , so that it saves everything.
Also do a “ back up”.

Save the stuff to USB sticks, just in case something is wrong with keyboard.

Better safe than sorry,

Hopefully just some sort of a setting got changed

I purchased a Kurzweil K2600 once and the very upper key would not work. I reinstalled the firmware and that fixed it. I am not saying that is your issue, however, if all else fails you might want to give it a try. It could also be a bad solder joint on the socket of the keyboard. Have you plugged the sustain pedal in and tried wiggling the cable where it plugs into the keyboard, while you depress the sustain pedal a few times. If it works intermittently it could be a bad solder joint.

I tried all the suggestions(thank you) and have ended up with the following success:
1.Sustain working on EC5 and pedal when I am in full mode, for entire keyboard.
2.Working on upper split only. It cuts off at the split point.

I almost never had used the damper, the way I play, but I have just gotten more into piano and noted the above problems. I don't even know exactly what I did to now get full mode sustain, but it is the most important.Secondly would be a sustained piano on a lower split. I am not even sure I can even do this.

The main thing is that I don't believe anything is very wrong with the Pa4X,just the operator.

That is a writable parameter on the 4x. Not sure where it's found, but I know it's there because I turned it off on my LH manual bass.

Hi Bernie,
I think the above is normal.

In full pianist mode the sustain pedal would cover the whole range of keys.
In split mode, it will sustain to a split point.
Maybe check the global settings for the various options.

On my sx900, I’ve got it set up with sustain to the split point (theirs possibly more options) but it works for me.
If I was more capable of playing left hand/right hand in arranger mode , I’d set it to full pianist mode, but, alas the concept of playing this method still escapes me .haha.

Thanks Rikki, but I can't find any such options anywhere in the Global menu,or elsewhere. I tried Korg forum again, also.

There is an option to set it for sure. If I still had the 4x I could find it. I don't remember which screen for sure, but I would try Global, then Controllers. Should be a row of boxes to tick to select which areas to assign the sustain.
After you find it, check to see if their is a lock pertaining to it, then be sure to press and hold MY SETTINGS, to save to your power-on setup.

Hi Bernie,
I think it has something to do with foot controllers. You need to find the screen page for the below item. I think it has something to do with Global and Controllers as Don said.

Try page 841 “Programming the Damper pedal “( found it on an online manual,) just in case page no’s vary from the original hard copy.

Don’t know if you have to lock or unlock anything page 863 Locking and unlocking (just in case.)

Well guys and gals, indeed it was a simple settings oversight. You are both right, and it is located in menu/keyboard/ensemble/joystick pedal. I can choose where I want the sustain active,as Don said.
There is no lock per se,but saved in SB if desired. I have added sustain to "My Setting",but still on a reg to reg basis. That's okay, I know how to handle it now.

Thank you for the time spent trying to help this old guy.
