Sounds great Fran. Your wife will love that. And you are prettier than Uncle Dave too. Maybe I will post a rendition too if you don't mind. If I can find one.

I talked to Fran and got his permission to post this here. I recorded it on the job with the EA7 just recently. Not happy with the vocal effect on it, but I thought it would be interesting to compare the Big Daddy G70 to the lowly EA7. Different style though. I just pulled the Roland Music Assistant up and clicked on it and played. It's a style called Easy Ballad. I Just Called To Say I Love You - EA7
It is a great song... and Stevie seems to be still sitting on his perch in my feeble mind. LOL! You piqued my curiosity and I need to learn exactly who wrote it... and how many renditions there have been by other big names. Thanks for sharing. ----Dave

OK, I just listened, and while you both did a good job - in totally different styles - I have to admit that for whatever reason, I never really liked this song, and never performed it ... I learned it only because my mother liked to sing it ...

I've always tried to learn anything, within reason, that I've had requests to do on the job. I save the lyrics and chord changes and listen to it enough that I can fake it if and when needed. This one started out that way, but over the years I've grown to like it better than I did at first. There are a number of songs that I don't even try for various reasons. Maybe it's out of my range or beyond my playing and/or singing abilities, and maybe I just don't like it. All valid reasons to not do a song! Thanks for listening guys.
As promised, I did my due diligence and there was a lawsuit over the writing (co-writing) of this song. Stevie Wonder, Lee Garrett and another writer contributed various elements to this song... so one article implied. The lawsuit was eventually dropped and most of the Web Posts give credit to Stevie Wonder.
I suspect money talked but I would sure have loved to have been plugged into the royalty stream for this one. For the record, if I were to ever build up the audacity to attempt singing this song, I would check out R&B Styles first. Just my two cents.

Interesting how this sometimes happens ... to any/all of us ... lots of 'views' but few responses, but then I guess we're all guilty of it from time to time ... never anything personal I'm sure ...
