What's so special about KETRON??
It's simple - AJ.
Yup - I value the fact that in a global emergency, I am able to pick up the phone and talk (without pushing a dozen prompts) to a major developer, engineer, technician, and salesperson - ALL AT THE SAME TIME. No other company has this resource.
The Ketron family (of products) is a high end, professional brand that is not a cookie cutter copy of the "other guys". AJ, and the team listen to the players, and work on solutions all the time. I was wrong to think I could navigate the SD7 the same as an SX900, or my PA4x - they are different beasts with different design features. Once you create a mindset that allows you to learn the instrument, with all it's fine print, you can decide whether it is a good fit for your arsenal. It took me about a month to arrive at that mindset.
You can't expect these instruments to behave exactly like their competitors... Ketron doesn't WANT them to. They have developed an OS, and a feature set that facilitates an accurate recreation of their acoustic counterparts, and in order to achieve this - there are some trade offs. Every instrument has quirks that either work, or don't work for a particular player, and Ketron is no exception. I have found a workaround to almost every "quirk" I encountered, or changed my mindset to allow a different behavior to be engaged. Sounds like a sales pitch - it's not. I'm not sponsored by Ketron, and I have nothing to sell you. I'm paying for the SD60 with my own money, and there are no endorsements that are not my own observations.
The Prince (AJ) is at the helm of a huge ship, in a very explosive time of technology, and innovation. Before you pass him by ... stop and try one out. You just may like what you hear, and you just may LOVE the way you'll be treated.
