Couldn't find the original post on this. Something really strange; I got my stimulus check IN THE MAIL yesterday. Am I complaining? No, but this contradicts everything I've read about how this money was to be distributed. I not only had filed my 2019 taxes but also draw Social Security which is direct deposited. EVERYTHING I've read indicates that I should have gotten the stimulus payment via direct deposit. They have all my banking information (obviously) so what gives? Anyone else experience this situation?

Chas - I am on Social Security and have not heard a peep. The wife and I should be receiving the $$$ but so far, NADA. I went to the IRS website and tried to inquire and got an error "We were unable to locate any information for you". Go figure.

For folks who have not seen anything, I heard on the radio this morning that if, by chance, you don't receive the funds, on next year's taxes, you "should" be able to claim the credit which would then reduce that amount from your taxes.

And the beat goes on.....

Thanks Donny, but since I've already started this one.......

Randy, yeah, sure seems like they can't get their act together. There are numerous stories of wrong amounts (very few overpays smile smile ), wrong bank accounts, etc. This 'tax credit' thing sucks for people who need the money NOW. I know this was pushed out in a hurry but boy, talk about poor execution. Hope yours gets straightened out soon.

Same here Randy.....I called my CPA, who does my taxes and my 2019 are not prepared yet. I voiced my concern over this and they told me the stimulus checks are based on 2018 returns. I have to call my CPA again today, because I think this is incorrect.

No problem here ...

And it must be based on 2018 because we - and a lot of other people - have not filed 2019 yet ...

Same here Chas
It's weird. My wife and I both have Social Security direct deposit to our bank. Yesterday we got an actual check in the mail made out to both of us on one check. I don't get it, we thought social security direct deposit info was going to be used for the stimulus direct deposit.

Who knows? But yea I'll take it too

Wow Dave, I had tried that link in the past and it was either bogged down, or gave me the same message as Randy mentioned.

But today, it allowed me to get to that 'next' page and fill in info from my 2018 return. I hit 'submit' and it stated will allow direct deposit to that account....

So Randy, maybe you should try that link again. OK, next post will be when I finish my Beatles Medley (bet all can hardly wait) smile

No problem here either. It was direct deposited a week ago just like our social security. Our tax work for 2019 was submitted about a month ago.

Nothing here yet, and my SS is direct deposited. My sons received theirs a couple of weeks ago though. They both filed as single, standard deductions, and as early as possible. Neither is on SS of course.

My best guess is that they are working on filed returns from 2019 first. If you haven't filed yet - try that link I posted. I was able to connect today.

Chas, you are right, Ha. One has to watch those subliminal thoughts while typing.

As I've said, it really doesn't matter whether you've filed your 2019 tax return -

"The size of the check will decrease based on income for individuals who earned more than $75,000 based on their federal tax return for 2019 (or their 2018 return if they have not filed yet). "

Other than that, I have no idea why some have gotten them and some haven't ...

Just got my bank statement, balanced my checkbook and no stimulus check in the statement - just the usual stuff. And, I filed my taxes in February this year, probably the earliest I ever filed in my entire life. Maybe I just don't qualify. frown

I think I heard on the news it was based on your 2019 taxes first then if you didn't file 2019 it would use 2018 taxes.. People on SS and don't file will get a paper check.

Hi All. I went to the new "get my payment" tool today and put in my info and it said, "does not match our info". I tried again and got same message and then it said you only get 2 tries in a day and shut me out.I am on SS and did receive my SSA-1099 form and I get my payment direct deposit every month. I guess my payment probably went to those big Fat Cat CEO's who grabbed the cash fast that was supposed to go the small businesses. Oh well, I guess I'm just one of the "Un-deservibly few" as Eliza Dolittle's Dad said to professor Higgin's.

Read the instructions for the GetMyPayment tool. At the top of the list it says, if you are on Soc Sec, do not use the tool. An IRS agent that WGN Radio (Chicago) has interviewed several times says that if you are on Soc Sec, the tool will not work for you. It will always return the "no info" response, because Soc Sec recipients are in an entirely different database, all their own, and the GetMyPayment tool does not have access to that database for security reasons. They don't want Soc Sec recipients trying to access something that will not help them, because the thing is already overloaded enough the way it is. He also said that if you get your Soc Sec payment via direct deposit, you will get your stimulus payment the same way. The last time I heard him, he was guessing about mid-May for most Soc Sec recipients, but I think a few folks on Soc Sec have already got theirs, but they may still be working and receiving a regular income, in addition to Soc Sec.

With the new tool...we were able to get the date in which our stimulus checks will be deposited (April 30th)

Hey, thanks much jingleman. So they updated the thing. So scratch everything I said above. All bets are off. Yea! All that stuff I quoted above is almost a month old, and WGN has not had that guy on again since then, or at least I have not heard him.

OK! I just went into the site and it said my check would be MAILED to me on May 1st, but I get my Soc Sec direct deposit, so that part is wrong too.

As with Larry and many others, I get my Soc. Sec. via direct deposit but got a paper check. Seems very inconsistent.
