Uncle Dave played a few snippets of this in one of his recent offerings and that, coupled with a little curiosity about how the NC2X would record, got me to make a half-hearted run at this tune. I used to play it years ago and made the mistake of thinking I could play it again from memory. The results prove that NOT to be true smile. I should have at least gone back and listened to it again. BUT, my main object here was to record the NC2X and see how good or bad the piano was. I give it a C+ (but then, it's only an $#800.00 KB). BTW, I didn't mix, eq, or even compress it, because I have every intention of doing it over....soon smile. Maybe after this Donny will stop asking me to add a track to something smile smile. Anyhoo.....

That sounds a little like Moondance Chas. smile
Seriously, it sounds really good to me. When it started the beat reminded me of Green Onions.
Thanks for posting. It's a song I like a lot but have trouble singing it, especially the middle part.

I agree with DonM, and I tried singing it once, gave up, and knew I could not play it well enough to do an instrumental rendition. You did a great job with it Chas, no doubt about it. And for an $800 arranger keyboard, the sounds were pretty darned good as well.

Cheers,

Nice, chas ... I've performed this many times - actually using a backing track... would love to do a vocal with you on this, but I dont have the means or knowhow ... maybe Dave could do it with you ...

Chas thanx for posting your attempt at Moondance...
but no reason for all the excuses...if I'm being honest for me
I thought it was overall pretty darn good overall,
Piano was a bit too out front and watch your timing on the
Piano melody line it can be a bit tricky.
Loved the organ stabs, drum groove and kool chord changes.
Great song...I'd say post more tunes at your leisure but
I don't want to get pummeled again and accused for prodding.
stay safe and thank you

Thanks guys, what's missing is that signature 'break'. I ignored it because it would have forced me to tweak the drum track; naturally, laziness won out smile. I WOULD work it out if I had to collaborate with someone. Also, maybe a little closer to the original bassline....however, conventional basslines don't always translate well to (jazz)organ basslines. The jazz organ pioneers made a point of making the organ bass a prominent part of their playing (just listen to Tony M. or Joey D). Anyhoo, when you've got an audience that doesn't know how to say 'THAT SUCKS', it gives you a lot of room to 'experiment' (aka 'making it up as you go') smile .

Donny, you're right. My timing (which I'm usually proud of) DOES get a little sloppy when I don't quite remember how the song goes smile. Some so-called 'improvisation' is simply going 'brain dead' on the melody smile. Rehearsing it first can really help that smile smile.

TASTY! Play this tune almost every night. Loved the simple piano lead. And that's a left hand to die for!

So nice, from my favorite player here.

Hey Russ, When I went to Dave's YT site, there was a similar streaming site with Tony Monaco. If you think you've got a good left hand, go to Tony's site and find out what 'humble pie' tastes like smile.
