Well since I don't have a keyboard here at this time,
& no one is gonna sit in with My Uncle Dave on the Sd7.....
I thought I'd get on stage with my musical mentor
and take a stab at this classic song..
Route 66 with a few edits here & there from the original track
to make it better for the vocal... enjoy

Gotta be honest, I liked Donny and Dave's version (much) better. Some of it, of course, was that the YT version wasn't mixed. My arm got tired just watching that keyboard player going ding ding ding ding ding ding ding throughout the song. Am I just getting too picky in my old age? (don't answer that).

chas, I agree ... I don't think the KB was 'featured' enough in the tune ...
And yes, aren't we ALL getting 'too picky' with age? ... but that's our right, so there ...

I liked them both, but prefer D&D, but the girl is prettier.

I didn't play any ... maybe a few notes clashed from my RH chords, or the Ketron interpreted them differently. I didn't listen that closely.

Fran - did you mean a BIAB VST solo? Sure sounds like the Jack Stafford Real Track soloist. If you plucked it on the keyboard, you did great (and have an amazing VST sax)!

Randy even though I have 2014 , I used 2012 version..I recall my lot older , maybe 2008 or so.. use to have solo for choice of verse chorus etc, with samples from Jimmy Smith, Wes Montgomery etc. Are these absent from BIAB now or do I need to use a BIAB style instead of a backing track like Dave provided.

BTW: what is the best sax VST you have found.. I actually like my saxes on Roland , I find them playable.

Fran why not just update to the newest biab version...
So much improved if you use it a lot.

Fran - I haven't played with the soloists too much on BIAB but I suspect the verse/chorus options are still in there. I imported the track Dave did with the BIAB Audio Chord Wizard and sure enough it added some Sus7 chords in there.

The BIAB software and soloists are amazing but for the complicated changes they usually require some tweaking -- I suppose as is the case with many computer applications, "less is more". Feel the same thing on my arrangers - I usually try to mute out some of the unnecessary instruments.

I like the sax sounds on Yamaha. I also have the WX5 Wind Controller and its companion sound module, the VL70. The saxes on there are pretty close to the real thing and since the controller is a breath and vibrato sensor, it adds to the realism. Here is a clip of "Tennessee Waltz" a very dear friend of mine who plays the WX5 wind controller recorded. In this cut, he plays both the (lead guitar intro and solo) guitar and the sax parts on the wind controller - all the rest of the tune was done completely with BIAB styles.

Randy your friend did a great job... BIAB sounds spectacular. Sounds live.

Donny, actually the newest doesn't add more features for me... just more content..
I don't use it enough to warrant an upgrade.. 2012 and 2014 are enough for me..

What I like to do, and may give it a shot.. I like to sample the G70 as a GM map and convert to Sound font2 (I have the software to convert).. Actually I like to do this with an Integra7. I guess that should be on my buy list again. smile

I did this years ago with Native Instruments "Bandstand" to use with the MediaStation.

I understand Fran BIAB was nice but didn't excite me enough to keep it. The Integra7 makes sense to add to your Roland arsenal for sure.
Good luck finding one.

Here is Route 66 using the wavetable (Bandstand) VST in MixCraft.
The GM table is 2GB in size .
