I used to have a Zoom, gave it to my grandson when I purchased a Go Pro Hero, which I used for a quick and dirty video. If I were seriously thinking of doing more vids, I would likely purchase a Go Pro Hero 8 black - it does pretty much everything and seems to be very user friendly.

As far as I can see, the GoPros are great for what they were designed--action videos. I maintain that if you are recording audio and video, and want to do it in all at once, you need line inputs to get the best sound. I don't see where they have these inputs. Our keyboards output studio-quality sound and it's a shame not to capture that when doing videos. Also, you won't have to worry about picking up peripheral sounds and noise. You will only record what is sent from your keyboard and what is picked up by your vocal mic.

The Go Pro Hero 8 has an audio/mic input and you can also connect a USB mic adapter available from Go Pro. So, no problem taking the output from your mixer to the Go Pro. At least, none that I could find.
I recorded this with a standard Go Pro Hero, the inexpensive model with no frills, using the onboard shotgun mic and placing it on top of my console next to the netbook PC. It just picked up the sound from the keyboard speakers - no edits at all.

You are correct, Gary. I have the Hero 8 Black and all the accesories. Don is also correct in the sense that it is best as what it was designed for, action videos. Although it does a lot of things well, if 'action videos' were not going to be part of it's duties, it would not be my first choice. There are cheaper and better choices for amateur music videos. My take.

It's good to see and hear you. But the picture is distorted, like a fishbowl, and the audio is missing high end and the vocal is a little distorted at times, at least to my aging ears. If the high end model has line input, I couldn't find it in the specs. But you would expect it for $300.
Don, you need the Media Mod (79.00) for the mic input, plus an external mic = although the Media Mod is equipped with a built-in mic that is slightly better than the one on the base unit.

For the very little video I do, I love my antique Kodak. Just set it on tripod, plug in audio feed, hit the Record button on the camera or the remote control and shoot yourself!

Would love to see it in action so I can decide what to do.. Thanx
Thank you for all the info,... The go pro seems too complicated and not directed to my needs,.. What else is in the mix there has to be more or like Don says the Zi8 could be the cheap answer for 20 bucks? I already have a headache just thinking about video..
I much rather just play my arranger and record like I always do on board or with the Daw sounds great and so much less hassle am I right? or what?

Donny - if you have an old phone and a laptop you can use FREE software (OBS) to put together great looking videos, and either save them, or stream them. The phone is an awesome second camera that you can use independently with a simple USB cable. I don't know ANYONE who ever bought a Go Pro for sound quality. Great camera, but so-so sound.

My recent demos are on the Q8. It has much better video, but I didn't feel like messing with the settings. Easy to learn and use and has 1/4 XLR inputs. Can separate video and audio or do both. Also has interchangeable mics. Great product.

I have an old Zoom Q3 that has great audio and so so video. It appears to have two line outs, but no line in(headphone and TV). It is nothing fancy, but a decent starter.
I am using a very cheap camera , A Runcam 2 (80€) that is normaly used on drones ore planes as Fpv cam , and my sound is running thru a Focusrite scarlett interface , It runs great on OBS and Facebook and YT Here a Example >> https://youtu.be/5z-AJuj9qGM
Thank you for sharing your work sounds terriffic great looking setup.....excellent combination. Video quality and sound is just right too.I guess there is many ways to use video and record a performance for sure.

+1 The only problem with the Kodak z-8, you can't monitor the video, as there is no flip screen. But it's a great inexpensive small camera that records in 1080 and has a line in for true sound.
I also love the Canon Vixia line, compact, HD, mic/line in for direct audio recording, and a flip screen for viewing. The newest R800 sells for about $200.

Larry great info, the monitoring is important now that you mentioned it..... can you possibly post one of your songs so we can hear and see the quality live as a reference?
