I've been trying to tackle this song for two days, but I have not been able to get it right yet. I heard it for the first time a couple weeks ago, had no trouble finding a stye, but since I lost my ability to sing, it has been quite frustrating to record this wonderful song by Jimmy Buffett, (sorry Captain Russ).

Try turning the style off and playing it manually as all styles are repetitive and boring, which makes it difficult to operate outside the box.
When you have got the feel of the song then you can modify a style to match.
When you don’t sing the notes on the keyboard become your voice, so think of transferring your voice to the notes.
If you have multiple split points on your keyboard (This is where the organ scores with its additional manual) have a small section you can use to play the stab chords when the voice is silent.
Above all, have fun.

Bill

Bill, all songs are repetitive, but NEVER boring, at least to me. The style I found was great, perfect for this song. It has an excellent beat, would bring most audiences to their feet and scrambling for a spot on the dance floor. I love the story the song tells, but because of my pulmonary fibrotic lung condition, I am finding it very difficult to tell that story because of lack of oxygen while attempting to sing. When I turn off the style, I quickly loose the enthusiasm the song invokes. I want to hear those drums, bass, etc... - that's what keeps me going in light of my health issues.

All the best,

Gary cool

So wondering Gary, what style did you find for that song

Thanks, hope you're feeling OK, and Happy Memorial Day my fellow Navy Vet

Happy Memorial Day my Swabbie friend.

The style I chose was the S-950's Pop Latin style with a tempo of 90, and played my own intro, then went into the "A" variation and used the "D" variation for the bridge. My biggest problem was my vocal ability, which began to fail about 2 years ago. As this disease progresses, I find it increasingly difficult to sing, which in my case was my strong point when I was on stage. I've never been much of a musician, which I have stated publicly on this and other forums I frequent, so performing this song as an instrumental is out of the question for this old hack entertainer.

All the best,

Gary cool

Catchy tune, Gary. Seems like very fitting song for you on a personal level. I can see why your attracted to it.

My only suggestion is to go for it, don’t worry about trying make it sound Jimmy Buffet and his great band. Make your own! Maybe modify some parts , take some stuff out or add your own stuff. That’s the great thing about an arranger keyboard. Your in control of your own arrangement. Have fun!

Never heard this song before and really like it. I also say go for it, vocal range isn't too bad and you could do a nice arrangement of the Caribbean Rhythm.

Gary, I've never heard this tune either but it's definitely a tune for Gary Diamond.

Gary, I think you did an all around great job! on that song. I also have never heard it. I only wish I could sing as well as you. An all around professional sounding performance.

Flingers, that was Jimmy Buffett - not me. I'm still working on this one, but making very slow progress.

Thanks for the encouragement, everyone,
