My SD60 just arrived. Do I open the box, or leave it packed? I mean, I'm packing everything else up - why open it, just to repack it? Hmmmmm..... What say you?

What if you wait until after the move, then open it and discover it was damaged in shipment?

What Don said ... hopefully there is none, but if there is damage, who is to prevent someone from saying you damaged it in moving ...
Moving before unpacking and checking it out just adds more complications ...
Just don't let it 'suck you in', and use 'moving time' for 'playing time' ...
JMHO

When are you moving?

I'd say unbox for safety check. Of course, if I were moving tomorrow, maybe not... Having said that, I have a brand new high-priced ham radio amplifier sitting in the garage (still boxed) and I really need to check it for damage. Box looks great but who knows it's not full of bricks and no amp?

I had many moves while I was in the military. On one of the moves, I "lost" a rifle the wife had got me for my 25th birthday. I had carefully oiled and wrapped it in a rifle storage cloth and had meticulously stored it in the original box. When we got to our destination, I was there with the inventory list and gleefully checked off that item when they took it off the truck. A month or so later, I picked up the box and it didn't feel right.... I opened it up and found that somewhere along the way, someone took out my prized rifle and replaced it with an old piece of tailpipe from a car!

Are you kidding me? How difficult is it to open the box, check out the keyboard, then put it back in. Gimme a break!

Now are you abusing my marital bliss for delaying any touching of the sacred SD60 ??? I wish I had bought the SD60 instead of the SD9 when I sold the SD7 last week because I DO miss the internal speakers so much but financially it was simply not on the cards...
Incidentally, good video what ?!!!! smile smile ( that was 2004 my friend and you are listening to the sound of the Korg PA80 !!!!!)

regards,
John

P.S. had my first ( and hopefully ) major disappointment with the SD9. Turns out that all of my 200 Registrations ( always my main effort as you know, and on which I spent scores and scores of programming, which were programmed on my SD7 do NOT run on the SD9. According to AJ this might be due to the fact that my SD7 had an older OS installed but as it happens I know for a fact that it was running on the very latest O.S. update, so strange phenomenon really......I can send that bank of registrations to anyone here with an SD7 or SD9 in case anyone wants to give it a try.,,,,,

John starting from scratch on a new keyboard can be a new exciting and fresh way to REstart your music...
explore and recreate your songs in other ways....
after all with this Virus situation all we have is time on our hands.
Good luck with your New SD9...I am interested in hearing what you can do using the launch pad feature in your music also.

take care

It's OPEN, already! Geeze ... LOL
I'm just pretty consumed with moving to relax and take it all in. I'll say this, as a preliminary top 10 review:

1) It sounds as good as anything I've heard, and better than most
2) Ergonomically (once you learn the OS) it's easy to use - clean, uncluttered layout
3) POWERFUL speakers - love 'em
4) sleek looking, and fully pro - metal construction - XLR combo mic jack - 3 usb slots
5) Some welcome changes over the earlier units - launchpad (still need to explore) - better filter/EQ options in real time
6) AJ
7) AJ
8) AJ
9) AJ
10) AJ

... did I mention having AJ for support?

clap

At one time, AJ was the only support person in the US for Ketron. This was once seen as a disadvantage for the brand and given as a reason to avoid them. It's quite a credit to AJ that this is now perceived as a positive and an excellent reason to buy Ketron products since he provides personal service the big brands can't match.

John,

I just realized we did not tackle your question at our last show (here for those who missed it:- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aypaWapyg0c&t=3870s)

To get a style into the launchpad QUICKLY....

* Select and start playing the stye (as you would usually).
* As style plays, press the LAUNCHPAD button.
* Style will STOP playing and immediatley be COPIED over into the LAUNCHPAD (new LP project). You will be asked to SELECT which of the 3 intros and 3 endings you want to port over in next screen ... plus which style parts you want to port over and which to ignore. Select as desired.
* SD9 will now automatically take you into the LAUNCHPAD.
* SCENES 1-4 will be Arranger A-D. SCENES 5 (INTRO you picked) and SCENE 6 (ending you picked).
* Now you can trigger as you requested on other manufacture boards. You also have 3 empty pads per SCENE to bring in whatever you want (midi, style part, audio, live guitar, bass or drums)!

Enjoy!

Thanks,

I guess in the future they will make launchpads more like pattern sequencers..
With 16 scenes. (so you can fit in 4vars, 4 intro, 4ends, 4 fills)
Or having intro, verse1, verse 2, verse3, chorus 1, chorus2, ending with several interludes between them)
And then making them have 16 tracks.. which would make a lot more sense to me.. from a logical approach..

Is there an easy way to lets say copy the same midi track to track 12 of all 6 scenes?

Some of these have already been addressed .... I think I need to do a demo just on LP....

Hi AJ

Thanks again for your reply as to the use of Launchpad with regular styles and chord changes.
I have worked out what you said and three questions remain:

Normally when you work in changing voices in a style for instance you hit GLOBAL rather than SINGLE
to make sure that the change in voice will run on in Variations B,C,D.
If I go to LAUNCHPAD and add certain pads to the style in SCENE A, what do I have to do to make them
stay in the other SCENES ( which correspond to Variations B,C,D) as well? I mean is there a way like GLOBAL
in style changes to make sure the added pads remain there in the next SCENES or do I have to re-program every
SCENE with those additional two or three accompaniment tracks ? (...which would be quite cumbersome)

When I want to choose an additional acc. track/pad in the SCENE I can choose from several sources such as Piano,
Guitar, Percussion, etc. similar to the Modelling in the SD7.

1
Can you audition the sound/track that you choose here ?

2
you told me upon my question you can also choose a track/sound of an existing style in the SD9. So for instance
if I have selected a SWING style, imported it in the Launchpad SCENE A and I want to add one or two acc. tracks
from another Swing Style, how do I proceed ?

As you see I am getting there, but it takes time.
Your consideration to make a instruction Video on this will be highly appreciated by many SD 9/60/90 owners I am sure.

kind regards and many thanks,
John
