Gary called about an hour ago from the hospital. He has been there for 4 days and is scheduled for pretty risky surgery in the morning.

I have enjoyed our weekly phone calls. I DEEPLY regret that we didn't really connect until I put together a plaque for him acknowledging the help he has been to so many over the years.

Thing is, Gary and I are as different on all levels as two guys can be.
But he is a MAJOR friend, who thinks my ideas, music and attitude are crap.

Guess what? He loves me anyway. And I certainly do him as well.

Please, whatever your personal beliefs, send your very best thoughts and wishes.

Got my fingers and everything else crossed for a recovery.

Russ

Our Bud's hanging in there! Sometime late yesterday Gary called, very tired, but ecstatic that the operation went better...MUCH BETTER than he anticipated. There is even a chance that they can do a reversal of the colostomy bag in a couple of months.

I didn't talk to him, and my phone does not record originating phone numbers when the message goes to voice-mail.

He told me to call him Monday or Tuesday. I already called the only number I know, and I never got an answer.

The fragility of life and the need to keep those you care about close really hit me in the A** on this one.

Gary, be assured, you are really important to lots of people, especially me!
