My main instrument in this field is the MIDI guitar. So the Audya 4 was something that I found very useful - I bought one - but ultimately I sold it when I found that it didn't do everything that I needed.

Will there be an Event product - in the future - that is similar to the Audya 4 but which has more options to suit the MIDI guitarist?

Please list the features you were looking for that were not found. The SD90 has been used by many Guitarists. Watch some demos here:

It would help, LatinoMike, to list what particular aspects of controlling the Audya with a MIDI guitar you found problematic, and perhaps AJ can inform you if those problems have been addressed with the Event?

I was playing with another MIDI guitarist, and one of us was working on one MIDI channel to play the right hand and the other played the left hand on another MIDI channel. We wanted the option to swap over the MIDI channels during a piece so we could change out roles, such as by using a foot controller. This proved not to be possible. So it was that particular issue that was the deal breaker with the Audya.

Could you not have changed the transmit channels of the guitars on the fly? Seems to me that would have fixed the issue.

Off the top of my head, I’m not sure I know any arranger that can live swap MIDI settings on the fly, definitely not one that can live swap while a style runs. Roland BK’s could associate different MIDI Setups with each Performance, but I think the Performance had to stop before the next MIDI Set got loaded in. This is likely a precaution to avoid getting stuck notes and controller values as the setups change. It’s a minefield trying to live patch active controllers on the fly…

There are also MIDI processing solutions that run on laptops and tablets that can do fairly complex procedures on the fly. They may have sorted your issue.

You can’t always leave it to the arranger manufacture to cover every last possible contingency that might be called for extremely rare needs. That’s going to be an enormous expense with little return as only one or two buyers would ever need it! On the whole, if my arranger can’t do something, I look to the controller for a solution, or external processing to provide it.

There’s usually a way!

Diki, while we were using the Audya it worked really well, but every time we wanted to change from lead to accompaniment it involved re-programming the MIDI channels, which was impractical for a real performance situation. Perhaps the Event has a different approach?
