I seldom post music on forums anymore but this is to good to not
post. I currently play 10-15 gigs a month at senior venues. This is a
video of a gig at a memory care place. My reason for posting this is to
show how awesome the staff is at keeping the residents involved.
This is the best staff involvement I have seen in 17 years of playing at
these places. It is 9 minutes long but watch it all.

Someone asked why I was wearing an eye patch.

My eye- Last November I had a Retina detachment.
December 20th it detached a 2nd time. They
Put an oil bubble in my eye. 3 weeks ago they
Told me the retina just was not re-attaching and
It looks like I have lost vision in my right eye. The
Oil bubble will stay in the eye which causes
Very blurry vision so I wear an eye patch to
Avoid messing up vision in my left eye.

Deane, like you I have witnessed great involvement with staff members at memory care facilities, and the staff at these facilities deserve a medal the size of a frying pan. Many have worked there for more than a decade and some even had relatives at the same facility where they worked.

Also, like you, I have lost a lot of my vision over the past few months, however, mine is from dry macular degeneration, of which there is no treatment or cure. I am slowly going blind and just hoping that I can make it another year before totally losing my eyesight. I will be seeing the eye doc in the next week to determine if there is a way to slow the process of the disease. (fingers crossed!)

Good to see you are still working, old friend,

Gary cool

Hi Gary,
Good to hear from you. Of course I wish you all the good fortune possible with your eye issue. It certainly changes just about everything in your life. I have not driven since
Nov. 11, 2022 and have no idea if I ever will again.

My music gigs keep me going and provide a wonderful way to not give in to daily problems. Anyway, good luck Gary and keep us updated.

That’s awesome Deane, and I’m glad to hear you’re still out there performing.
It’s also nice to see the staff getting involved too! When I used to play in nursing homes, sometimes the staff would take off when I performed and leave me alone with the residents. Probably they went off to their offices to take a nap or get high! One of the AD got fired for going into residents rooms to steal things. I saw some horrible things in those places, and sorry to cast any darkness on your thread. It looks like you found a good place to perform at, glad you can spread some joy through you’re music. Those folks deserve and need it!
