Any interesting discussions on this keyboard anywhere?

I’m not interested, at this point, to buy one. Mostly curious.

It's your money, but IMO you're better off with a gently-used PSR.

Hi guitpic1,

I was very curious about this keyboard so I tracked one down. I had it for a week and then sent it back. It lasted a week only because I tried so hard to like it but it was just after a few hours I knew already how I felt.

Cosmetically it's very pretty especially the display and colourful dashboard where you can even customise and change the back-lit colours of the buttons, but ultimately I just could not get on with the vital thing - most of the sounds and styles. To my ears, it really reminded me of mid range PSR's of the 90s and of that era. Not that they were bad, I guess I am saying just sounds dated. The styles are not very inspirational and found them quite bland, nothing stuck out. The drums were the worst thing for me, they were OK in certain categories like Ballads but in something like the Latins, especially, they sounded horrible. It is just my opinion though because I don't want to put off any potential buyers. It is a good price for what you get especially in terms of features, options and cosmetics.

In contrast, I recently owned an SX600 (I think they are similarly priced) and there is no doubt the SX600 blows it sonically.

I agree with TedS I think any PSR of the last 10 or 15 years will sound better but it does depend on one's needs and what someone would want from it. But that's my experience of it anyway if it helps at all.

All the best,
Danny

Hi ,I was browsing thru the manuals style recording section, the style structure sounded like the early psrs. No guitar mode, no mega voices. Even though it may be loosely based on Yamaha, it’s not a psr.

It will probably suit people that use samples and create their own styles. I wouldn’t imagine it would suit the Yamaha fans.

The guy who did the Medeli vs Ketron Event video, clever bit of marketing . You get everyone’s attention, basically bashed the Ketron, while not promoting the Medeli too much.
Then you find out he’s planning on adding Medeli to the list of arrangers he creates samples and styles for. Also in its basic form it’s a fairly average machine. By the time you end up adding the sample libraries, no longer quite so inexpensive.
Clever bit of marketing and good on him. He has a heap of Medeli videos on his site.

Hello All

Thx for the responses.

I own a Genos that I used and paid for by gigging. It’s in storage now.

It had been three years since I had been gigging. So I called up my rep at Sweetwater and got a deal on the SX 900 to use to play at home with friends…and maybe gig again.

I’m not buying a Medeli but when the SX900 is three times the cost of the Medeli…I did get curious.

Also I understand that the Medeli has 256 polyphony?

I can’t figure out why the SX900 has only 128 and so little on board storage. In this day and age, that seems to make my SX900 lacking somewhat.

I have put in a number of hours converting my Genos registrations to the SX900. Works well but is quite tedious with all the many steps involved in converting and saving registrations. 😊

Thx again all

I currently have one, and the value is in amount of features for price. Still working through it. I augment it with a ketron sd1000 which improves sound greatly.

Just a simple question, but why if you already have a Genos, would you play anything less?
