Thanks Tapas. Do you think they will work in the 920?

Hi.
If other G2 styles work reasonable well at you keyboard, also these will do.
But, you may have to find and replace sounds at some tracks if those chosen is not present or missing at 920.

Yamaha sure did something right with this collection. It's top notch, great sounding and well mixed. 🥇👍
Hopefully they will follow up, i.ex. with a Std. Country Collection, Std Blues Collection etc. 😉😀

Hello Tapas!!

I've posted on 2 other forums............ These are some of the best styles I have for Genos2. Yamaha did it right. As a Genos2 owner I am so pleased that Yamaha made this pack for Genos2. Even though it is called a pack you don't need YEM to install it. Yamaha took full advantage of including the Genos2's newest voices and effects. I would think all one would have to do is change out these exclusive Genos2 voices to work. These styles clearly rival the already excellent styles on Genos2.

Thinking towards the future, what did it really cost Yamaha to create and release this pack? The good will alone of offering a FREE worthwhile pack should keep their customers happy. Would it really be out of the question for Yamaha to continue releasing new free content every so often. Unfortunately my long history with Yamaha's style offerings isn't all it could be. First there was Internet Direct Connect (IDC) where you purchased content directly on your keyboard. Once payment methods were improved it worked well. But there was never any regularity or schedule.........Then we moved onto Yamaha MusicSoft but they too never had a regular schedule of offerings. Kudos to Yamaha for making all those packs available free after COVID.

I'm sure my obsession for new and different styles will continue. Free is nice, but I don't mind paying for exceptional styles. And after listening to all these new styles it shows me that Yamaha can make quality styles! Best wishes. -charley

Even if not a song specific style, I think that the memorableness of these styles might make them difficult to use repeatedly for different songs. That’s kind of the problem with how good modern arrangers have got. As the styles have got more realistic and complex, they start to become more memorable for the listener, and it’s easy to hear ‘Oh, he’s using the same backing he did for that earlier song’.

I think it’s long past time that arranger designers took a long hard look at the styles from the ‘golden age’ of arrangers, from when they were vastly more popular than they are today. I don’t think it’s any secret that the styles back then were FAR simpler, and were designed as subtle backing to what the PLAYER played, emphasis on YOU.

Today's styles overwhelm you, admittedly awesome playing and technical marvels, but bottom line, unless you are as virtuosic as the style, your input sounds amateurish at best. How many demos have we heard where the intro is the best played part of the recording?! How is that supposed to encourage the player?

If the arranger is going to survive, I think the manufacturers need to develop styles that flatter and support the amateur player, not dominate and diminish him/her. I think the arrangers of the 90’s did that well. Today, I m not impressed. The technology has arrived that makes them sound amazing, but what do we want? An arranger that sounds amazing, or an arranger that makes US sound amazing, not some tacked on amateur noodling over a bunch of first call session players..?!

Some of this pack felt a bit like the old school, but most felt like something I wouldn’t dare to use twice in an evening. I used to do whole shows with maybe 10 styles or so. I don’t dare do that using modern styles. 🎹😎

Keep things simple and use the accompaniment to enhance YOUR performance, NOT the other way round. (If you want that use a backing track as it will be way better than any style)

A basic swing style can be used for 100s of songs (Not just one), which can be varied by switching tracks in and out, and/or just changing some of the instruments. (The same applies to other styles)

Make your performance individual to you, as people easily see through canned styles.

If I were a pianist, gutiarist or in other ways a top skilled musician playing in a band, I would agree with you.
But if keep it in mind that those styles are intended to work on a "autocomparrangerkeyboard", I think this "pack" is among the upper ones Yamaha has created for the G2 and the genre the styles representing.

The playlist included mentions a couple of songs that fits each styles well, but it's also possible to edit and tweak a bit, and by that you can add more songs to the list.
It may not be the best in the world for all, but for me those styles is more 'old fashion', usable and down to earth than 70% of the rest there is at the G2.

🤔
Thinking about it. It's probably me that's got too old and grumpy to keep up with all the modern stuff constantly repeats at the radio and TV.
Reminds me a bit of the older generation when I grew up and become a teenager .... 😉😁

The thing that still excites me the most, the latest arranger tool that makes me hope that EVERY arranger adopts it (like they all seem to have finally figured out that a chord sequencer is an essential arranger feature!) is Korg’s ‘Two styles at a time’ feature.

Nothing else comes even CLOSE to massively increasing the diversity of your style collection than picking two of them, and choosing which Parts get heard and which get muted. Finally, if there’s a Part in a style that is too specific to one song, mute it and let another styles Part play instead. Problem solved!

Yamaha need to take a REALLY hard look at this new feature. As the Kings of the ‘songstyle’ they’ve got a huge number of styles that really are only good for one song. Swapping out the most recognizable Parts with more generic ones would give them a huge boost to their pro styles selection.

Korg's dual player is a great feature that have nice possibilities for those that see the potential and manage to use it as intended.
Yamaha G have 2 players (A+B) too, you can cross fade, but it's for playback of files such as audio and midi, and cannot be used as a double styleplayer as on Korg.

Both Korg and Yamaha have too much modern 'top hits and songspecific' styles compared to the number of generic or allround ones, so I welcome all they can do to fill that gap.
But at the other hand, I can see why they do it like that. It's all about marketing and sales while they attempt to reach new and younger usergroups.

We'll see, maybe the next (if any) TOTL G and Pa will make our chin drop down to the chest? 🤔😄😁

Never the less, the new 20 STD styles collection from Y isn't bad at all. 😉😊
