Can anyone tell me if styles from a kn5000 can be read on a kn1600 without style conversion? Thanks!

I discussed this with one of our Melbourne Technics group members who uses both a KN1600 and a KN5000 (also a KN6000). Her experience is that most KN5000 files will load directly into the KN1600 without the need for conversion. The exception is custom style files (*.cst or *.ast) which are not used by the KN1600. To load KN5000 styles into the KN1600, the styles need to be copied to the KN5000 composer memory and then saved to a disk from which they can be loaded directly into the KN1600. KN1600 files can't be loaded directly into a KN5000, nor will the standard conversion disks supplied with Technics instruments enable you to achieve this.

Since the KN1400 & the KN1600 were released after the KN5000, they should both read the KN5K files, and also the KN3000. If not, you can always use a hex editor to change the headers to read for a KN1600(LKF - 4C4B-4600) instead of for a KN5K (H K - 4600-4B00). Or simply go to Gunnar Jonny's website and download converted style files for the KN3K and the KN5K. There are enough styles to last for a few years. Go to http://home.c2i.net/gjgotaas/ for styles and information on your keyboard. Welcome to the fun world of Technics keyboards!!

Thank you for your feedback. It is highly appreciated I tried some styles that were for a kn5000 today and they were read by my keyboard. But styles from the kn2000, 3000 were not Life is hard when you don't have a style convert disc.

Ahmad, the style convert disk is for converting styles from other keyboard brands to a Technics format. Although it does provide a conversion for an early Technics keyboard to another, it never seemed to work for me. Besides, the early keyboards didn't do near as much as the later ones. As I said earlier, go to Gunnar Jonny's site and download some of the hundreds of styles there. Many are already converted over to the KN5000 format, so you shouldn't have any trouble - only playing pleasure.

Hiya Bud
I agree entirely about Gunnar Jonny's site - a great place for free downloads.
As a matter of interest cos I was very young in 1998 - how closely were the KN5000 on the one hand and the KN1400 and 1600 on the other hand, released?

Thanks Bill - a bit like the 2400 and 2600 timing relationship with the KN7000, eh...
