I am not an accomplished musician like all of you, and I do not compose or improvise. BUT I love playing the styles. Currently I have a kn6500 and really enjoy it. My question to you all, is will the KN7000 meet my needs for more styles and sound??

What I red in your post you be happy with your intstrument. I think for you at the moment the only advantage is the SD card. I think you don't have many selfmade styles at disks. So wait awhile save your money. The price of the KN7000 will sink and within a year there will proberly a new KN flagship for sale.

I, too, own a KN6500 and recently checked out the KN7000 at the music store where I buy my keyboards. IMO, the differences between the two keyboards are not enough to warrant a change or the added expense of the new keyboard. The owner of the store also told me to keep the KN6500 and wait for the next model. I think Technics made the SD operation far more complicated than it needs to be. Looks like a real pain! I'm hoping that maybe the next model will have a CD read/write system in it. That would make it really nice and better than the KN7000. I agree with Willem in that you should just sit back and wait for the next model. If you had an older model, then it would probably be worth the investment in getting the KN7000.

I also suggest you keep the 6500. It's a great keyboard. So is the 7000 - it's awesome. But for those of us who use our keyboards at home just for self-entertainment, the 6500 is sufficient. I know...I moved up from the 6500 to the 7000.
I love the 7000, but I could be happy with the 6500 too. It's gonna take me another year to grow into the 7000.

Whilst I agree that for the home player, the 6500 is still a great keyboard I must take Peter to task over the SD card system. It is simplicity itself and as easy to use as the floppy disc only much much faster.

I would like to echo Trevor's remarks. Wheras much was made of the complexity of the SD card,in reality,it was merely the new concept that threw us.
It is simple once you grasp the mechanics,and,all of the advantages it gives me as a gigging musician is tremendous.

Using the SD card directly on the KN7000 is no more complicated than using a floppy disc - the operation is almost identical.
The added 'complication' is only associated with computer connection, when used for backup etc.

For live play the SD Card is a definite winner. I have about 100 dance setups so far on the SD Card. When you want to load a song you can set up the KB to either select by Folder (each folder holds 20 selections), or by Title (alphabetical), or by number. I find that the number system is the easiest.
For instance if a particular song is located in folder 22, position 17, you just type in 2217 and you are there - press load and you are up and running in about 3 seconds. In my music book index I simply have the song title followed by the location number. Nothing could be easier or faster.

Good points about the SD card .
The SD card allows for both audio and midifile playback . The KN6500 only allows for midi file playback .

Technics I think is saying " hey , audio playback is better quality than midi sequence playback . They provide the end user recording software that's works with your computer . The SD card gives you this .

If you are strictly looking for more style playback , than keep the KN6500 . If you like the idea of making audio recordings
along with your music , than the KN7000 is definately worth the upgrade .

Oh , I think the SD card allows you to use the great LCD display as well !! Digital pictures ?
