I already ordered a kn7000 at my local shop and a made a prepayment but I a am wondering if I am not to fast to make this decision.
I have a lot off software (hundreds off disks)...it would be very annoying if the software doesn't work anymore, so I think it will be better to wait untill the kn7000 is actualy on the market.
If the software doesn't work there will be no kn7000 for me but the kn6500 will stay.

How about getting the KN7000, and then keeping the KN6500, having it keep the KN7000 company? Having 2 keyboards is better than one, right? dueling keyboards, etc.

Seriously though, if Technics maintains it's past KB software compatability track record, your KN6500 format files should work fine on the KN7000. AFterall, the KN7000 is only one Technics KB generation ahead of the KN6500. I was easily able to play even further generations back KN2000/3000 styles on my KN5000. Still, I would hesitate making a deposit on a any keyboard so early in the game. Your money could be earning interest in the bank (in the meantime). Just my opinion of course.

it is a most odd assumption that your disks will not work given the evidence of the history of features of the keyboards.

by now all your disks should be on your sx6 hard disk. Make a techmanager backup, they will all be in 6500 format. That guarantees they will load in the 7000, probably sounding better than if you leave them in older formats on their original floppies.

Print out a directory structure from the techmanager, now you have a record of which files are where, you can copy selected files to fill whichever size of flash memory card you buy for the 7000, and update with new different files when needed. It will be very simple...

I did exactly as you outlined above, with my KN5000's hard drive backup files. I've backed up the entire KN5000 hard drive directory contents onto a CD. Will KN5000 format styles/songs load and sound ok on the new KN7000 as well? Thanks, - Scott

I think you WAAAAAAY jumped the gun. No one even knows if this keyboard is for real yet. It maybe a huge disapointment. Get you money back, and wait till you put both hands on the instrument before you plunk down any more bread !

I was told by Technics Staff at the Caister Keyboard Festival this month that the KN7000 will be launched to UK Dealers 11th & 12 June. The product its self will follow within the next few months. Technics stated the this new board we be radically advanced to what they have previously produced.

I agree with Uncle Dave (and raise him an extra "A"!). Really no need to put down a deposit at this early stage. Surely your dealer won't sell out his first shipment THAT quickly.

I would be incredulous if 5000 format did not load in the 7000. I have no inside knowledge, but just looking at the history it would seem virtually certain. 5000 styles sound very good on the 6/65 and were a relative breakthrough in the history of the styles over time so we shall have to see, but based on the history there is no basis for the assumption that it will not be possible.
I was told by EMC the 7000 would have the updated style converter disk supplied which now includes Yamaha along with a few others.

As to not knowing if the 7000 is real or not, it certainly is real as many have seen and heard it. Whether it is wise to buy sight unseen, sound unheard, and feel unfelt is quite another matter... However if you had 2000, 3000, 5000, 6000, 6500 etc and were happy with them it might be a pretty safe bet. Not for everyone, but live and let live...

Market share and demographics will vary around the world and around the country. Technics owners tend to be quite loyal to their machines, I suppose because they like them... no-one forces them to buy.

My experience of the last few launches is the new model soon sold out and was in short supply. I gave back my first two 6500s because other customers wanted one at any price. Each to his own... if people enjoy them and get a buzz out of playing, that's what it's all about.

By "real" I mean a REAL contender. No one can make that choice for anyone but yourself. You just hafta wait!
