Came across a bit of a problem converting Korg styles for the Kn7. Most converted OK but on one disk (Korg KSDI-19) an "error" message flashed up and none of the styles converted. On another Korg disk, 3 files were OK but the fourth failed. Any ideas, anyone?

Probably nothing more than a corrupted file by the poster, or a bad download. Try another download and see if it works. These things happen sometimes.

also if it is a new collection there is a limit on the size of some Korg styles because of the way that Korg achieve their arrangement structures.

These were both purchased disks (not downloaded) so that rules out a downloading problem. Think Alex must be right - I've heard before that Korg works in mysterious ways.....

Hi,
from memory ( as it's been over 6 years since I had a korg i2).
Unlike the kn7 which has a variation when playing a major or minor chord for it's intro's and endings,
the korgs I beleive have variations on all the style parts ( intros, endings, fills and the 4 variations) and I think it's also on something like 5 or 6 chord types ie maj,min,7th etc
which can add up to very large files.

I actually saved most of my korg internal styles as midifiles, just in case I ever got round to converting them to another keyboard. Back in the early 90's the style convert program sometimes didn't do a terrific job. I actually preferred working on them as midifiles, which could then be edited in a sequencer. Lot of work though, and probably not worth it.

Must be about 9-10 years since I had the Korg i3 and before "losing" it saved a selection of the internal styles to floppy and all these converted OK on the kn7, as did the styles from several of the commercial Korg disks I still have apart from 4 styles on one disk and one style from another. As s non techno this is the mystery for me!!

Since you have nothing to lose, you may want to email Gunnar Jonny and see if he will give the files a shot with his EMC program. If it will convert the files to kn5k styles, it will be no problem to upgrade to kn7k format.

Usually I don't make such converts for individuals just because of the EMC
programs author do a great job, and I won't do any harm to make him any
loss sales.
However, I may give it a try to help you out, and see if it is the files who are
corupted, or/and to see if it is possible at all to convert by use of EMC.
