Can someone tell the button combination to find out the software version of my K7 please? If it is not the latest, where would I go to get the most current version please?
I'm not aware of an English download still in existence. The download for Kn7000 ver 1.6 is the first one where it says "Kn7000 ver 1.6", the first 2 disks are the ones where it says "disketten 1 und 2". To make the floppies run the executable files and click "weiter" with a formatted floppy in your drive. The screen disk check is the check that is offered to you in the screen when you run the floppies in the 7k. To run the floppies insert disk 1 hold down panel memories 1, 2, 3 and 4 and switch on. You will see checkdsk or update options, check first, it then will tell you to swap to disk 2. To upgrade repeat the same steps with update. Naturally firmware upgrades are at your own risk.
Originally posted by technicsplayer: 1.6 was the last one, you can download here: http://www.technics-music-service.de/downloads/index.htm be very careful to do the screen disk check before updating, if you have 1.4 you only need the 1st two update disks.
Is there an English version to this website? Derek
Hi Folks. My German is not bad but as said before download Babel Fish and copy and paste. Now to my question!! what will I gain in updating? Will I get extra voices? or a better KN7000! Or what happends if things go wrong, would the software for the KN7000 have to be reinstalled? is it better to leave well alone and be satisfied with what I have! or am I missing something? It sounds a little complicated to me but may be not so when I have looked at it. Again Alec comes up with the answer, he's a treasure. More posts like this please everyone has to learn and no better place than righr here. Regards. Joe
1. Bitmap pics for HOME page can be selected. 2. SD-Card %age used display corrected 3. Drum Track with transposed files corrected for use with MIDI out. 4. Audio files on SD-Card all now recognised. 5. The SD-Card Control File less chance of corruption - backup created. 6. Corrections to Technichords which either don't work or produce the wrong results e.g. "add9", "madd9"
1.5 was released early incorrectly by a German dealer and created a new bug if soundcards were installed, 1.5 was therefore quickly withdrawn and 1.6 corrected this bug.

Having downloaded the upgrade disc and placed it in the K7 floppy disc drive, when I pressed the load button, nothing shewed up on the screen. What am I doing wrong? Derek

These are the instructions in English as provided to me by Technics for the upgrade. It's been a very long time so I can't remember much of the details. Maybe this will help with the German version translation.
To upgrade your SXKN7000 to Version 1.6
1. Turn the power off and insert Disk 1 into the disk drive. 2. Press and hold down panel memory buttons 1, 2, 3 and 4 at the same time. 3. While holding these 4 buttons, turn the keyboard on. 4. At the bottom of the screen choose “diskchk”. 5. Choose ‘check at the lower left. 6. Change to Disk 2. 7. After check is completed it will say OK Turn On Again. 8. Repeat steps 1 – 3. 9. This time choose Update – Follow instructions on screen to upgrade your SXKN7000 to version 1.6.
you have a bad disk 2, make another with a different floppy. Upgrading with a bad disk can destroy the 7k hence the vital importance of the disk check.
Hi Derek, you wrote "when I pressed the load button".
No load button is involved, my post said insert disk 1 hold down the first 4 panel memories and switch on. If nothing happens the disks have not been written correctly.

OK, I made a new disc 2 but still nothing. I translated the German PDF and it said "after some time" refering to disc 2. I can hear whirring from disc 2 but nothing happens on screen. I am using the German download - does someone perhaps have another copy somewhere? Is 5 min a reasonable wait time, or should it happen sooner?

There must be something wrong with the downloads. I just reformatted both floppies and remade discs 1 and 2. Still no joy. I wonder if brand new floppies are what is needed, although these ones formatted with no problems. Any suggestions?
there is nothing wrong with the downloads. I just downloaded them, made the disks on a usb floppy drive on a very old floppy disk ran them on the 7k and the checkdisk passed fine.

I have the original disks that I used to upgrade my KN7000 but am not sure if the disks can be copied. I recall that the KN5000 upgrades required special image copies for them to work. Alec, do you know if the disks can be copied so that they could be sent as attachments? I've never tried. I closed all my web sites shortly after I lost my wife so I have no place to post them for download.
Oops . . Don't need to worry about copies. Must have been typing at the same time as Alec.

Bob, the last time I tried the files had to be copied in a specific order to work, a windows alpha copy (or unzip) did not work, but that may depend on the windows (or rather underlying dos) version used, this was after all some years ago, way before media centre edition etc. I made my own image self extractors because of this, but as I have shown it is immaterial since there is nothing wrong with the download under discussion. All the best.
What version on KN7000. Hi Folks. I have just read all the posts on updating the KN7000. I cannot at this time try to update I have no KN7000 It's very sick!!!! But I wonder if success in updating is due to formatting the Floppies in the KN7000 instead the PC.Just a thought. Regards to all. Joe
