Hopefully, if my piggy bank and my dear lady wife allows - I will probably exchange my KN6000 for a KN7000.
To prepare for that day I ask for any advice regarding the transfer of files. I currently have the Hard Drive SX6 but not Tech Manager.
If 'ALL' files are saved from the KN6000 to floppy and then copied onto my PC, can they then be copied from PC to the KN7000? Also before copying from PC to the KN7000 would it be advisable to rename the files using 'long file names'?
Any advice/suggestions will be welcome and I'm sure other members may be in a similar situation.

Hello,

I had the program Hd techmanager....it's a pitty you don't have it.
I was very easy for me....I made a backup off the hdsx6 .
All the files from the hdsx6 are now on a specific directory on my pc...with 3 subdirectories...part 1,2 and 3.
All the files have a ttx file.....I think you better make a ttx file for each file you copy.

When I will receive my kn7000 I will copy part 1 to a Secure digital card , part 2 to another SD card and so on.

I just wonder if the kn7000 can read files from the Sd memory card that are in subdirectories ?

The Hard Drives allow file names to be saved up to 26 characters long. Thus making it much easier to name songs and find them quickly, instead of the current 8 characters allowed in saving files to floppy from the keyboard.

there is a song manager software supplied.

this transfers technics and midi files directly to the flash memory card.

there are other more useful functions too, that will become apparent in time.

so assuming you load from an explorer type window into song manager, I would think you could load your unzipped files just like any other program file/open dialog on the pc.

for backup without the techmanager I'm afraid the floppy route is the only option. There should be no problem once you have your archive on pc hard disk. I would not bother creating ttx long file names meanwhile if you do not have them already.

I kept all my floppies anyway (as a kind of 6th backup) and unfortunately found the only way for me was updating i.e. resaving in each new machine for best results.
(boring job)
This was important from 5000 to 6000, from 6000 to 7000 may not be that important or even necessary, we shall see when a lot of files have been loaded.

If we carry on with flash and mass data transfer like this, the floppies can maybe finally be consigned to the bin.

I see no reason why you cannot arrange files in convenient packets on the pc and then copy different sets for different days over and over onto the same card. I have flash memory cards in camera and mp3 player and constantly download and overwrite, its very reliable, way ahead of floppies, and probably better than hard disk with no moving parts.

Does anyone know if Macintosh software
will be included with the KN7000?
Thanks for all the information.
Unfortunately the USA is the last to
get the Technics keyboards and info.

I can't say we ever heard anything about mac software. It depends whether the usb driver works for macs. If the usb driver works in macs you may be able to use exsiting mac programs to do what you need. Audio and midi may not be a problem, maybe writing to the SD card requires something else?
I think you have to wait and see...
