How are you returning the effected signal back to the mixer, are you using the aux returns?
I find you only need about 30 to 40% back to be noticable.

Yes, the returns. The MX2642 has stereo inputs that double as returns. I've set the 'aux' levels to zero to avoid feedback. The 'level' setting is at 50%. My send pots are at about 25%. I'll check it later today (it's 5am now). Might be the 50% that is causing the overkill.
