Has anyone had any experience with EMC in converting KN7000 styles to another keyboard ? I have a Roland G70, as well as the KN7000 and have several hundred custom styles I would like to convert, but I don't want to waste my money. Minor tweeking is expected. The website states that the style must reside in composer to properly convert.

Hello Bernie,

I have a Converter Disk that came with my KN7000 and give below details of the listed possible conversions that can be made:-

GEM-WX2.CNV
KORG.CNV
ROLAND.CNV
SOLTON.CNV
TECHNICS.CNV
GEM-WS3.CNV

I have successfully converted styles from the Roland E86 to the Technics and whilst some do not sound quite the same as their original settings (for obvious reasons) all
are very acceptable, particularly the Country styles.

If you have one of these Floppy Disks, try it out.

Audrey

Hi Audrey,
Thanks for the reply, but I want to go the other way; from Technics to Roland.

Hi Bernie
Yes you'd have to transfer the custom styles to composer bank A first so that you can satisfactorily transfer them to your computer and have them be recognised by EMC Styleworks. Next point is what format style file does the Roland G70 work with...STL...STH or other?
I've converted many style files using EMC Styleworks over recent years.

Roland is STL. Not up on composer, will have to read up on how to do it. I know that they are in "memory", not "custom". Some employ 4 var(ok), and up to 8 pm's. That means I will convert the var, but will have to construct my own equivolent of the pm's. The KN is so cool this way.

Giovanni
Thanks, I have e-mailed Klaus. I have the EMC Korg version, purchased in 2007 when I had my PA-800. I told him the situation, and asked if I could get an upgrade price on Universal.

'I know that they are in "memory", not "custom".'
They are not custom styles now therefore although they may have been at one time.
If there are Custom Styles you wish to save to floppy disk and take to your computer the process is as follows...
Program Menus - Composer - Custom style copy - get 'direction' right - select the custom style by name you want to transfer on the L/H side of the screen - select Memory bank 'A' on R/H side of screen - click OK - select the memory load button in the rhythm group - save to floppy disk and waltz across the room to your computer and load from floppy using Windows Explorer into somewhere on your hard drive where you can subsequently locate it...
Now, given that you own a copy of EMC Styleworks Universal you are in a position to convert that Technics style file to a Roland STL style file.
EMC Styleworks costs around 500 dollars to buy from Klaus Grosser. Very nice man!

Custom Styles is a Technics jargon term for style files prepared and made available in a particular format that end up in the Custom style button area in the rhythm group of buttons.
custom-made styles for particular songs is a different thing altogether and is the usual meaning of the phrase custom-made which means made specifically to enable the performance of a particular song. Files of this nature when loaded either from SD Card or floppy disk will almost certainly end up being found when you depress the Memory Load button in the Rhythm Group of buttons.
Hoped all this helps, Bernie...

Thank you for the clarification. I have Americana disks that require loading into the custom area. These are not of this nature,--so how do I go about preparing regular files for EMC conversion,ie,Composer A ?

Sorry to be obtuse, old chap. I do appreciate your help.

Hi Bernie
Fundamentally the process is as per the first of my two replies. However if you've already got these style files on a floppy disk then there is no initial work to be done on the keyboard. Providing on that floppy disk for each style file there is a .cmp file that will be the one that EMC Styleworks will use to create a Roland STL file.
Bernie, Styleworks is a lot of money and unless you are going into conversion wholesale it is not value for money per style. Have a look on www.createsongstyles.com in the CSS forum area under Roland and you may find a lot of what you need in styles...just a thought...

I would agree that to buy Universal for $500 would be a stretch, however, two years ago I bought Styleworks XT for my Korg(now gone). Klause will let me upgrade to Universal for $150 Euros. Since the Korg version is dead money, I think it is a no brainer to get Universal for these or any keyboard in the future. Is it cost effective; yes, because I have hundreds of styles better than KN factory styles I want, rather than buy more.

Hello All,

Roger - can the EMC convert Technics styles to play on the Tyros 3? I have hundreds of styles for the KN7 and it would be just great if I could use them on the T3.

Look forward to your reply.

Audrey

Hi Audrey , I used to own a T2 .
I also had the idea of converting many of my favourite Technics styles to Yamaha .

The emc software is very good for copying the exact structure of the file no problem .

The really difficult part is that you will have to do so much tweaking !!! and i mean a lot of tweaking !!!!!! to make them sound good enough to gig !!

In fact in the end I decided to sell my T2 .

This is only my experience and my opinion .

regards ...Giovanni

Giovanni makes a good point Audrey, but providing the Tyros 3 takes STY files then yes EMC Style works will convert...

Hello Giovanni and Roger,

Thank you both for your replies. It sounds as though it's a lot of time consuming work and as you both know, I'm already 'cheesed off' with the amount of 'tweaking' necessary to get the Tyros3 to my liking, so on second thoughts, I'll not be going down that road. Best keep my KN7000 - then I'll always have the originals to use.

Hi Audrey,
next time you are in OZ, bring the KN7 and I will make you a good offer for it. (Only if you can demonstrate it for me). On second thoughts, I will buy it unseen.
See Ya !!!
