Hi All,
Friend of mine has a KN6000 upgraded to KN6500 (No Hard Drive fitted). Any saved custom rhythms etc are lost when the keyboard is switched on again. Is there an internal battery that can be replaced or any other suggestions please as to a remedy.

That is what he said. However, I suspect he means that anything saved is lost after the keyboard has been switched off for a while.

Hello John,

I had a lot of trouble with the KN6000. The Technics guys called at my home and put in an update disk which helped for a short period but eventually, the KN6 was replaced with the KN6500. Not only did the keyboard not hold any additional information, but during play it would sometimes just stop and I would be left playing the keys with no sound coming from them. Embarrassing I can tell you!

At first, my complaint was met with disbelief but one night I was recording when it happened and the 'silence' was recorded also, so I was able to prove my point, but of course this bit of useless information, doesn't help you at all. To get back to your query, I assume you have advised the usual i.e. 80mins cut-off time if not saved to an external source and/or using the Factory Reset.... just a thought. I hope you soon find a solution.

Like Audrey I had many problems with the Kn6000. After many calls and letters they repulsed my Kn6000 with a Kn6500 without charge. My problem was different than yours but I feel the keyboard in general had many problems. Many as compared to none on all the other Technics I have owned.

This does not solve your problem, it’s just more Kn6000 history.

Oh dear!!!I have just spent a long time talking to my brother, (Kn7000 owner) regarding loss of memory.(Keyboard that is).
For what it is worth,... after he turns the KN on, to recall settings, he is pressing "Bank View", which shows all factory settings in banks A, B, C,which are factory settings. I believe he should be pressing either any Panel Memory button, or "Next Bank" to retrieve any previous settings.(I have never let mine rest for more than 24 hours to test the time frame).
The manual says that some sounds are held for 80 minutes, others for a week,the rest,permanently.
My KN5000 I am sure, held everything permanently.
My PR903 says only 80 minutes for all.
Another friend has a KN6000, and I think its memory is 80 minutes, but not completely sure.
A simple test would be to save to disc just as a back-up to test the results.

I've just had a thought on your question of battery? How about asking one/some of the repairers? I would think one of them would know the answer.

I remember reading about back-up batteries on certain keyboards. It was written in the manual in the section that explained how long the was retained in each section of the keyboard. Some for 80 minutes some for a week.

If there is a back-up battery in the Kn6000 the manual would say so – if not I would presume that there is no battery.
It is important to know if the data is lost if the keyboard is switched back on immediately. Also to know what else he is losing when he turns the keyboard on. Is it only Custom Memory, if it is Custom Memory?

On all my Technics I saved every user area the keyboard had.
Current Panel – Panel Memory – Composer – Sound Memory – MSP
Custom rythms – and Midi data.
Before I started playing I would load Current Panel – Panel Memory – Composer – Sound Memory. Custom Rhythms, sequencer and Midi Data only if necessary. I was never concerned about losing the user areas. You can even lose these user areas by loading another party’s Sequence/Data.
Another question: If he is losing the info in a user area what has replaced the lost information?
