There have been no posts since January 2, 2010 at 11:56 AM so I thought I would start a topic that would benefit new Technics users. The pads on the Kn7000,6500 and 6000.

1-How are you using them?

2-Where do you need help?

3-How to create pads?

4-Where can you download pads?

This is an interesting topic John and it will be interesting to see what others have to say on the subject.

However, for myself, I cannot really say how I use the pads but, USE THEM I DO - almost with everything I play and to be honest, for me, the pads are the most important facility missing on the Tyros 3.

O.K. I know there are Multipads on the T3 but they are nowhere near as good, or controllable, as the KN7s, plus the little 'rifts/phrases' on pads 5 & 6 are not available at all on the T3 which I really do miss, as I use these often whilst turning over the music pages or linking a medley of songs.

Which, and when, do I use them? The tune I am playing usually 'suggests' which pad(s) and when to use them.

Audrey, Since I put in the extra effort to understand the Ty3 and the pads I find they can do for more than I thought at first. I hate to compare, but for sequencing they are fantastic. For live playing I find that they are good, I need to experiment more.

This is one of my set ups for the Kn7000 pads.

1- Bass drum on 1st an 3rd beats and a snare on the 2nd and 4th beats.
2- A cymbal, your choice on all four beats.
3- 3-A bass drum on all 4 beats.
4- Chords on all four beats -- Piano or Guitar.
5- A IIm7 VII chord progression repeating. (Dm7 G7)
6- A 12 bar blues progression repeating.

With #6 you can select almost and 4/4 beat and have the 12 bar progression. You could use a I VIm IIm V7 progtression. (C Am Dm G7)

#5 can be used with Latinos to solo, normally in the middle of a song.

With # 1 thru 4 you change the flavor of many styles – I use a simple 4/4 style and add one of the 4 pads – this changes the feel of the style taking away the monotony of repetition.

The rest is up to your imagination.

Like Audrey, I use the pads on the kn6000 quite often, according to the song/style I am playing ...
I have not created my own pads and perhaps that should be a new year's resolution ...

Thanks for the topic, as I forgot all about them. Shame on me. How can this wonderful machine get old when I find something new everyday. I think I am aging faster than the keyboard.

Bernie, I don’t why you should say that I have a slide show on my computer screen and your picture from the last jam keeps coming up and you don’t seem to age at all.

“Keep it Simple”

All though it nice to hear a brass section for a few bars or another part of the band do a riff, think of what they do to change the feel/mood. And keep in mind that the band should never change radically or you lose the realism.

Two instruments, the drums and the bass. A pad with bass drum and snare can be added to many different type of styles. And a bass drum on all four can add an additional drive. I feel the pads should add an accent - never to be played up front. (Unless there is a reason)

I miss the #6 pad – any popular progression, even the circle of fifths. You are in the middle of a song in C major and you play a C chord and press pad 6 which has the circle of fifths or the 12 bar blues -- you solo over that and then come back to the song again.

While many of the suggested pad techniques are in my arrangements, the one thing I do in every song arrangement
is to put the control pad on page 3 on every panel memory than doesn't use other pads. As a result, I can easily move through the many panel memories of a song by touching the 6 pad with my left hand. No I don't have a foot switch.
